Overrated, Underrated & Worst Classes in Baldur's Gate 2

Welcome to my commentary on underrated, overrated and worst BG2 classes in BioWare's Baldur's Gate 2.

Underrated Classes Baldur's Gate 2

Due to their largely unknown power and versatility, the most underrated classes in Baldur's Gate 2 are Gnome Illusionists and Triple Class multis.

• Gnome Fighter Illusionist
• Fighter Mage Thief BG2
• Fighter Mage Cleric BG2

While it's weak compared to the above, Priest of Lathander BG2 is also underrated.

Overrated Classes Baldur's Gate 2

The most overrated classes in Baldur's Gate 2 are the Inquisitor and the Monk.

• Inquisitor BG2 is an easy warrior class to solo due to its anti-mage Dispel Magic BG2 that is always over-leveled in comparison to the enemy. Plus, True Sight BG2. Big deal, a two-trick pony that can barely be called a Paladin because it lacks Lay on Hands, Turn Undead and the ability to cast spells so it doesn't even have access to bread and butter like Armor of Faith (stacks with itself) and Draw Upon Holy Might (maxes at Strength 25). So the Inquisitor sees a Mage BG2, casts True Sight and Dispel, and then slays the hapless Mage. That is how every encounter goes. But then the Inquisitor can't take on physical enemies as well as the two other Paladin kits because it's a lot weaker without AoF, DUHM and innate combat bonuses. Moreover, in party runs True Sight is easily handled by Mages or Clerics; as is Dispel, which can be annoying in that it doesn't distinguish between friend and foe. So now our whole party is debuffed which is why it's better for a lazy Solo BG2. The Inquisitor adds nothing to a balanced party, but it IS one of the most powerful classes.
• Monk BG2 is nowhere near the calibre of any well-specced warrior, whose weapons and other items allow it to do everything the Monk can do, but better. There is an important item for Monks that is easily missable: the Gauntlets of Crushing in the Sahuagin city [item code: BRAC19]. We will definitely want them for their raw +4 to-hit/+4 dmg fist upgrade.

Worst Classes Baldur's Gate 2

Veterans may like to experiment but newbies should avoid these classes like the plague because they are basically weak and unfun:

• Wizard Slayer BG2 is not even fun if dual-classed to Thief
• Shapeshifter BG2 may be amusing due the WEREWOLF form, but they're pretty weak in BG2
• Single-classed unkitted Bard BG2, Druid BG2, Cleric BG2 , Paladin BG2 and Fighter BG2 should be avoided.
