Assassin Mage Dual-class BG2: Maximum Backstab Damage (Ironfist backstab)

Assassin Mage Dual-Class BG2

The above screencap depicts an authoritative Core Rules damage calculation.

Assassin 21 Mage 24 is a Baldur's Gate build in BioWare's cRPG of 2000, Baldur's Gate 2.

Build is Assassin (21) → Mage (24dual-class Baldur's Gate. The gimmick is septuple backstab of assassin and Shapechange ironfist backstab of iron golem. I'm only interested in unaided damage (no buffs from other combat units).

Backstab damage = weapon roll + weapon enchantment + weapon proficiency * backstab level (+ Strength bonus).

• Damage sources (some are multiplied; others only added):

  • Iron Golem Ironfist: 4d10 crushing
  • Strength 25: +14 (DUHM; otherwise, 24)
  • Backstab x7
  • Critical x2

Therefore:

Backstab damage = weapon roll [max 40] + weapon enchantment [0] + weapon proficiency [0] + weapon damage bonus [0] * backstab level [7]
+ Strength bonus [14]

Dual downtime is an utterly absurd 4,500,000. Gets 5-5-5-5-5-6-5-4-3 arcane spellcasting and all Mage HLAs except for one (I would omit Comet).

With this setup we can inflict x7 Black Blade of Disaster backstabs and Ironfist backstabs, augmented with poison (30 points per hit). As well, we can throw Energy Blades and Melf's Minute Meteors at 10 ApR, augmented with poison.
