Ankheg Plate Mail Armor
Ankheg Armor is a BG1 Item in BioWare's cRPG of 1998, Baldur's Gate 1. Ankheg Plate Mail Armor would be of first-rank if it wasn't magical in nature. Nothing in its description suggests that Ankheg Armor is magical, but Ankegs are magical beasts according to the Monstrous Manual.
Great Armor Class aside, Ankheg Armor is also notable for its light weight and semi-natural nature. By virtue of the former, weaklings like Viconia can wear it. And by virtue of the latter, pure Druids such as Faldorn can wear it.
Ankheg Armor Location
In Baldur's Gate 1 Walkthrough, Ankheg Armor is found on the ground at a farm in the southwest of Nashkel.
Ankheg Armor can also be forged by Thunderhammer smithy if we bring Taerom a shell from an Ankheg, which can be found in the area north of the Friendly Amn inn.
Note that Cromwell can forge Ankheg Armor in Baldur's Gate 2 as well (there are ankheg spawns in Windspear Hills).

Ankheg Shell Description
The ankheg resembles an enormous many-legged worm. A tough chitinous shell, usually brown or yellow, covers its entire body except for its soft pink belly. Dried and cured ankheg shells can be made into armor.
The Ankheg is a burrowing insect-like creature between 10 and 20 feet long, found mainly in forests or choice agricultural land. They are covered with plates or shells made out of a substance called chitin which is extremely tough and very light. The size, weight and strength of the shells make them highly sought after in many situations, including the creation of armor.
