Staff of the Magi Baldur's Gate 2

Staff of the Magi is a BG2 best weapon in BioWare's cRPG of 2000, Baldur's Gate 2. The perfect weapon for Mage BG2 such as Edwin BG2, the Staff of the Magi hits at +5 enchantment level, grants at-will, undispelable Invisibility that bestows immortality vs. non-True-seers, sports on-hit caster level uncapped Dispel Magic (Carsomyr cannot dispel Abazigal whereas SotM can), and features a host of spell-like abilities that include an 8 hour Spell Trap.

Thief BG2 cannot backstab or backwhack with Staff of the Magi -- Use Any Item BG2 or not and despite it being a quarterstaff -- because SotM is flagged as non-Thief (not usable by Thieves).

In SCS BG2, the on-equip Invisibility power of the Staff of the Magi can be removed.

Staff of the Magi Location

The Staff of the Magi is found on the corpse of Layene after beating the Twisted Rune encounter in the Bridge District. This can be done as early as Chapter 2.

Staff of the Magi Lore

This type of staff is thoroughly linked of the image of the spellcasting profession, rare though it is. It is among the most powerful tools that a wizard can possess, the culmination of complex enchantment and endless study. This particular example is good in melee, grants Invisibility, and offers protection from Charms and Evil. It can also cast a Spell Trap, launch a Fireball-Lighting Bolt combination, and Dispel Magic. The quintessential mage item.
