Robe of Vecna Baldur's Gate 2

Robe of Vecna is a BG2 item in BioWare's cRPG of 2000, Baldur's Gate 2. Due to its 4-point spellcasting time reduction and 10% magic resistance BG2, Robe of Vecna is one of the most powerful items in BG2.

Indeed, Robe of Vecna is combat encounter-breaking because it allows Mages, Sorcerers and Bards to cast BG2 Best Spells before rival spellcasters can.

Note that divine spellcasting can also benefit from Robe of Vecna if the Cleric is part-Mage (Aerie) or Thief (Use Any Item BG2).

Robe of Vecna was not included in the original version of Shadows of Amn: it was added by the Collector CD, aka Bonus CD. Thus, since that inclusion is merely a result of marketing rather than genuine cRPG design, Robe of Vecna can be considered a cheesy item that gives no thought to game balance whatsoever.

In SCS BG2, Robe of Vecna can be moved into Throne of Bhaal.

Robe of Vecna Location

The Robe of Vecna is found for sale by Deidre BG2 in Ribald's Adventurer's Mart at the beginning of Chapter 1, which is utterly absurd.

Robe of Vecna Lore

This robe doesn't even have close to the power that the two famous artifacts, the Hand and Eye of Vecna possess. Still, from simply being worn by the powerful lich, the robe absorbed enough magical energies to become a potent magic item.

Amulet of Power

The Amulet of Power can be combined with the Robe of Vecna for a 5-point spellcasting time reduction.

• Decrease Spell Casting Speed by 1
• Immunity to Level Drain

The item code for the Amulet of Power is AMUL21.

Amulet of Power Location

The Amulet of Power is given to the player character by Aran Linvail at the commencement of Chapter 3. Otherwise, it is looted from his corpse.

Amulet of Power Lore

This amulet bears the signature enchantments of Conster Damon, an archmage that fell in the Year of the Dracorage (1018DR). The crispness of its etchings may have faded with fire and time, but it still echoes his famous defiant cries: 

"Your magic denied!" "I will be heard!" "Defeat comes swiftly!" "Take nothing from me!" 

It has seen much use, and changed hands many times through blood and battle.
