BARBARIAN, Baldur's Gate 2

Barbarian BG2

Barbarian is a BG2 Best class in BioWare's cRPG of 2000, Baldur's Gate 2. As is the case for all classes that can be Dwarf, the best race for Barbarian is Dwarf, NOT Half-Orc.

Barbarian is a better tank than Berserker BG2 due to 1d12 HD, Rage +Con and innate DR that stacks with Defender of Easthaven and Hardiness BG2 for a legal 80% damage resistance BG2 total [1], but the Berserker is going to be more damaging in the long-run because its Enrage adds +2 dmg on top of the Strength 25 that both Barbarian and Berserker can reach.

Moreover, Berserkers can wear the Gauntlets of Extraordinary Specialization whereas Barbarians cannot, so add THAC0 +1, damage +2 and ApR +½ in favor of the Berserker.

However, the Barbarian will be more impressive in the early-mid stages when stacking DUHM with Rage for Strength 25; in fact, for non-Evil Half-orcs, that's straight out of the cage.

[1] Note that Hardiness erroneously stacks with itself, cheapening Barbarian DR once we break into HLAs. Also, the Defender of Easthaven is overrated: ApR from off-hand Belm BG2 is far superior to 20% damage resistance.

Barbarian Rage

In addition to the immunities conferred against run-of-the-mill mind-affecting, Rage grants immunity to Sleep and psionic Stun.

The Barbarian's 2-point save vs. Spells was not implemented. Indeed, it's a 2-point penalty. (Fixed by BG2 Fixpack).

Barbarians may only become proficient in or specialize in a weapon. The inability to GM a weapon is not a big deal because BG2 nerfed Grandmastery.

Best Weapon for Barbarian

The best weapon for Barbarians is Flail of Ages BG2 or Foebane BG2 on-hand, Belm BG2 off-hand (10  ApR under Improved Haste).

Overall, Barbarian starts strong and stays strong, but Berserkers eventually overtake them due to Gauntlets of Extraordinary Specialization and the +2 to-hit and dmg of Enrage in addition to Titan Str dmg.
