WIZARD SLAYER, Baldur's Gate 2

Wizard Slayer is a BG2 class in BioWare's cRPG of 2000, Baldur's Gate 2. Wizard Slayer is clearly a magebane kit: spellcasters that can't cast spells are dead meat. However, it sucks so much that on-hit 10% cumulative spell failure is melee only; it does not work with ranged weapons.

Thus, no Tuigan fun in the early going. Still, it's effective in melee if we crank our ApR. But there are other ways to take out spellcasters, aren't there, such as with the on-hit Dispel of CarsomyrStaff of the Magi or Arrows of Dispelling.

Plus, spellcasters stripped of combat protections and spell protections are dead meat, anyway, so I don't see spell failure as a major perk.

Wizard Slayer magic resistance BG2 actually caps out at 84%, not the expected 40%. MR from items stack with Wizard Slayer MR. That means 100% MR is attainable even though Wizard Slayers may not wield Carsomyr. Prime MR sources for Wizard Slayers include Human Flesh Armor +5, Amulet of Selarine and a Tear of Bhaal. The Resist Magic HLA does not stack MR, it sets it to 50%. Don't take that HLA.

As a rule, Wizard Slayers may not equip magical belts, gauntlets, rings, amulets or cloaks. Notably, in addition to Rings of Protection, that means Wizard Slayers may not equip key items such as:

This is a huge limitation. To add insult to injury, Wizard Slayers may only quaff healing potions, no others. However, they may erroneously equip the Amulet of Seldarine and Boots of Speed BG2.

Unmentioned in BioWare's description is that Wizard Slayers may equip any magical shield (Shield of Harmony BG2 and Shield of Balduran BG2), along with any magical helm or ioun stone equippable by warriors, such as Vhailor's Helm BG2.

Item restrictions are further tightened in BG2 Fixpack: Wizard Slayers may not equip the Amulet of Seldarine, for example.

As with Kensai, Wizard Slayers may dual-class to Thief in order gain Use Any Item BG2. This will allow them to bypass their strict item restrictions. However, Kensai Thief duals are much more entertaining.

Overall, playing as Wizard Slayer is not recommended, especially for newbies. This is a BG2 worst kit.
