Ranger BG2

Ranger is a BG2 class in BioWare's cRPG of 2000, Baldur's Gate 2. Unkitted Rangers are outstripped by the kitted Archer BG2 and Stalker BG2, but not by the inferior Beast Master BG2 who can only wield non-metal weapons.

Ranger Description

The ranger is a warrior and a woodsman. He is skilled with weapons and is knowledgeable in the ways of the forest. The ranger often protects and guides lost travelers and honest peasant-folk. A ranger needs to be strong and wise to the ways of nature to live a full life.

THAC0 progression: Full
Weapon Proficiency: Specialization (**)
Alignment: Must be Lawful Good, Neutral Good or Chaotic Good
Minimum stats: 13-13-14-3-13-17
Recommend stats: >=18/91-18-18-11-14-3
Recommended HLAs: Power Attack, Critical Strike, GWW, Hardiness, Smite

Rangers break into Druid spells at 8th level or 150,000 XP. However, they max out at 3rd circle.

Ranger Racial Enemy

The best Racial Enemy for Rangers in BG2 is Demonic / Fell, Dragon or Vampire (in that order). In BG1, the best choice is Spider.

Racial Enemy grants to-hit +4 vs. the chosen enemy. This isn't amazing but we may as well choose wisely. If RE granted +4 to damage as well as THAC0 or even +4 to damage instead of THAC0, that would have been much better. I mean, Cavalier BG2 gets +3 THAC0 and damage vs. demons and dragons, and the Undead Hunter BG2 gets the same vs. all forms of undead...
