YAGA-SHURA, BG2, Baldur's Gate 2

Yaga-Shura BG2

Yaga-Shura gets hit by death magic.

Yaga-Shura is a Baldur's Gate enemy in BioWare's cRPG of 2000-01, Baldur's Gate 2. In Throne of Bhaal, Yaga-Shura is a 25th level fire giant Bhaalspawn BG2 notable for his initial invulnerability, epic fire resistance and persistently replenishing army of soldiers, officers, elites and fire giants.

Yaga-Shura Location

Yaga-Shura is found at his Siege Camp from which location he has besieged the town of Saradush.

To reach Yaga-Shura, we must make our way over a bridge and into his camp:

How to Beat Yaga-Shura

After removing Yaga-Shura's quest-based invulnerability, we can attempt to beat him in a fair fight.

Like Gromnir BG2 before him, Yaga-Shura is a physical-based damage dealer and conventional tank. With High Mastery, he wields a fire-enchanted warhammer (+2 fire) and inflicts an average of 28.5 bludgeoning damage at a rate of 3½ ApR. Coupled with a THAC0 of -14, he is a force to be reckoned with.

Yaga-Shura's AC stands at a pitiful -6 but his hit point pool is deep at 186 and his saving throws are low at 3-5-4-4-6. He also has 127% fire resistance and 110% magic fire resistance. Thus, he has a degree of staying power.

However, any suitably equipped party warrior BG2 can go toe-to-toe with Yaga-Shura. All we need is a good weapongood armor and solid THAC0ACApR and damage output.

After incurring damage, Yaga-Shura realizes that he is no longer invulnerable and runs off to source stronger reinforcements:

After a few rounds, Yaga-Shura returns with a vengeance, accompanied by four Lieutenants:

We receive 30,000 XP for slaying Yaga-Shura. We can also loot his corpse for Runehammer +4, Shield of the Order and Shuruppak's Plate.

Yaga-Shura's Reinforcements

Triggered as the party crosses the opposite side of the bridge, the ranks of Yaga-Shura's army auto-replenish until Yaga-Shura himself has been utterly vanquished. It is somewhat random as to which combat units spawn from a pool consisting of four different kinds. Note that army numbers do NOT build up over time if they are not slain. Instead, slain units are merely replaced by others and their numbers are capped at a laughably low value.

Since the reinforcements are largely benign and a mere distraction, we should focus on inflicting damage on Yaga-Shura himself and all but ignore the reinforcements since they just get replenished anyway and thus bring us no closer to winning.

Yaga Shura's reinforcements consist of the following combat units:

Yaga-Shura Soldier

Yaga-Shura Soldiers are laughably weak 5th level Fighter BG2. They have THAC0s of 13 and inflict an average of 6.5 slashing damage at a rate of 1½ ApR, wielding generic Longswords. Yaga-Shura Soldiers have ACs of 10, 60 HPs and wear no armor.

The ranged variant fires generic arrows from a generic longbow. It has a THAC0 of 12 and inflicts 5.5 damage at a rate of 2½ ApR.

2,000 XP ea.

Yaga-Shura Officer

Yaga-Shura Officers are 10th level Fighters. They have THAC0s of 10 and inflict an average of 7 slashing damage at a rate of 2½ ApR, wielding generic Bastard Swords. Yaga-Shura Officers have ACs of 5, 93 HPs and wear Chain Mail Armor.

3,000 XP ea.

Yaga-Shura Elite

Yaga-Shura Elites are 18th level Berserker BG2. They have THAC0s of -2 and inflict an average of 15.5 piercing damage at a rate of 2½ ApR, wielding +2 Halberds. Yaga-Shura Elites have ACs of 3, 165 HPs and wear Plate Mail Armor.

6,000 XP ea.

Fire Giant Berserker

Yaga-Shura's Lieutenants

Unlike the ranks of Soldiers, Officers, Elites and Fire Giants, Yaga-Shura's Lieutenant ranks do not replenish. Only one of each Lieutenant spawns with Yaga-Shura when he returns accompanied by them.

Lieutenant Fighter

The Lieutenant Fighter is a 20th level dual-wielding Berserker BG2. He has an on-hand THAC0 of -5, an off-hand THAC0 of -1 and inflicts an average of 14.5 slashing damage at a rate of 3½ ApR, wielding +3 Scimitars. He has an AC of 3, 175 HPs and wears Plate Mail Armor.

25,000 XP.

Lieutenant Thief

The Lieutenant Thief is a 20th level dual-wielding Assassin BG2 that attempts to inflict x5 poison weapon backstabs with its +2 daggers. The Assassin can quickly attempt five backstabs since it is five invisibility potions in its possession.

The Assassin has an on-hand THAC0 of 10, an off-hand THAC0 of 11, and inflicts an average of 8.5 piercing damage at a rate of 2 ApR. The LT has an AC of 1, 100 HPs and wears Leather Armor +1.

25,000 XP.

Lieutenant Cleric

The Lieutenant Cleric is a 20th Cleric BG2 that auto-buffs defensively and then unleashes Insect Plague.

25,000 XP.

Lieutenant Mage

The Lieutenant Mage is a 20th Mage BG2 that fires a defensive Spell TriggerMislead and then unleashes a barrage of spells that include Time StopSymbols and Sunfire.
