BG2 Fixpack



BG2 Fixpack is a Baldur's Gate 2 mod for BioWare's cRPG of 2000-2001, Baldur's Gate 2. The BG2 Fixpack is now a requirement for SCS BG2.

Fixes highlighted in boldface type and commented on in red are those which constitute notable exploit-fixes or nerfs to original BG2 behavior; blue indicates an advantageous fix. From a gameplay perspective, there are many more (impactful) fix-nerfs than there are un-nerfs.

  • For example, Blade BG2 Defensive Spin is no longer erroneously mobilized by Free Action status, thereby nerfing Blades as mobile tanks.
  • Example 2: Spells and abilities such as Armor of Faith and Hardiness no longer erroneously stack with themselves, thereby making damage resistance BG2 harder to attain.
  • Example 3: Even if 3x Project Image are stacked in Chain Contingency, only one image manifests when CC is triggered. Moreover, the PI can no longer clone itself from PI scrolls loaded into Quick-item slots. Thus, PI is limited to one image, not limitless images.
  • Example 4: Improved Invisibility no longer erroneously confers non-Detection, meaning rival Mage BG2 no longer ignores melee and ranged attacks by Imp-vised combat units.
  • Optionally, Free Action can be set to protect against Stun and Wizard Slayer on-hit miscast magic can be set for ranged attacks as well, not just melee attacks.
  • Note that, even 20 years later, the fixpack does not fix the armor piercing strike THAC0 exploit of Spectral Brand BG2. Possibly, this can only be fixed with ToBEx. See: Best THAC0 BG2 for more info.

BG2 Fixpack Bugs


  • With BG2 Fixpack + True Grandmastery installed, Kensai BG2 inflicts 110 damage on a SotR Kai Critical (10 lower than pristine original BG2 without True GM). By rights we should be yielding 122 damage. cf. Maximum Kensai Damage BG2.
  • Fiends attack one another even when they are on the same side of the Blood War. Indeed, Glabrezu attack other glabs, Nabassu other Nabs and Pit Fiends other PFs. See: Cacofiend, Summon Fiend and Gate spell. Being Baatezu, PFs should attack Glabs and Nabs, but Glabs and Nabs should not attack each other since they are both Tanar'ri.
  • When a fiend attacks Planetar BG2, the Planetar turns hostile (attacks the gater).
  • Kensai Thief cannot put weapon proficiency points into long bow or darts when leveling as thief, yet can put points into any other non-Thief and non-Kensai weapon proficiency.
  • If you slay Khan Zahraa in Trademeet, talk to Trademeet Merchant BG2 and then report to Guildmistress Busya for the reward, TM despawns.
