Maximum Kensai Kai Damage, Baldur's Gate 2 BG2

Maximum Kensai Kai Damage

This is a Kai-critical strike from a Kensai BG2 wielding the Staff of the Ram BG2. The above screencap depicts the authoritative Core Rules damage calculation.

  • Staff of the Ram: 1d6 + 6 + 12 + 1d4 (20-28)
  • Grandmastery (nerfed): +4 (32)
  •  Strength 25: +14 (46)
  •  Weapon Style Bonus +1 (47)
  •  Kensai: +13 (60)
  •  Kai + Critical Strike (120)

Brutal at-will flat damage. No RNG at all in the damage rolls. Note that Kensai can execute a maximum of 3 successive, at-will Kai Criticals under 10 ApR. However, if we save after activating Kai, reload, and then activate Critical Strike, we can execute 5 (exploit).

Of course, we can only stack Kai with Critical Strike for one attack followed by one-round cooldown, but that's still impressive. It's like a backstab by a non-Thief.

Note that its +6 dmg bonus from enchantment is undocumented but calculated.

With Fixpack BG2True Grandmastery, Kensai inflicts 110 damage on a SotR Kai Critical (10 lower than pristine original BG2 without True GM). By rights we should be yielding 122 damage.
