Jaheira BG2
Jaheira Location
Jaheira is a Baldur's Gate companion in BioWare's cRPG of 2000, Baldur's Gate 2. Jaheira is found in the lower dungeon of the Chateau Irenicus prologue.
The Harper has two quests, tons of dialogue and also a romance. Of all companions, she is the most fleshed out. Playing without Jaheira in the party is not recommended on a maiden run.
Overall, taking into account everything (not just combat prowess), Jaheira is overall the best companion in the Bhaalspawn Saga.
If removed from the party, Jaheira can be found standing outside the Harper Hold in the Docks District of Athkatla. That is where she also waits if we refuse to let her join the party in the Prologue.
Along with Imoen and Minsc, Jaheira is one of three Baldur's Gate canon party members that survived BG1. Khalid and Dynaheir did not make it.
Jaheira's Stats
Jaheira's only weakness is her middling score in Strength. Since she can't wield Blackrazor BG2 or Crom Faeyr BG2 due to being part-Druid, we need to buff her Strength with potions or spells, or have her wear the Gauntlets of Ogre Power or a Strength girdle. Once she gets those items and a few levels under her belt, Jaheira becomes a juggernaut of destruction.
- Proficiencies: Scimitar (*), Club (**), Quarterstaff (*), Sling (*), Sword & Shield Style (*).
- Maximum level: Jaheira maxes out at Fighter (24) / Druid (21).
- Jaheira's utility skills & abilities: Lore (7), Shapeshift: Bear, Wolf, Black Bear.
- Jaheira's Initial Spells: Bless, Armor of Faith, Sanctuary, Barkskin, Chant, Miscast Magic, Dispel Magic, Negative Plane Protection, Death Ward.
Jaheira Build
Some of Jaheira's high-level abilities are as follows:
- Access to 71 divine spells
- Main-hand THAC0 Baldur's Gate -20, off-hand -13
- Armor Class Baldur's Gate: -12
- 20 damage per hit at a rate of 10 ApR
- 127 resist all (damage heals) [original BG2 only]
- Jaheira maxes out at Fighter (24) / Druid (21).
In terms of Jaheira build, the best weapons for Jaheira are Gnasher BG2 or Spectral Brand on-hand and Belm BG2 off-hand when dual-wield BG2. Otherwise, Impaler BG2.
In addition, Jaheira can cast three powerful offensive spells: Insect Plague, Creeping Doom and Nature's Beauty. In battle, Jaheira should be protected by Iron Skins.
The best armor for Jaheira is Full Plate Mail.
Jaheira's Quests
Save Jaheira from Baron Ployers curse
As early as Chapter 2, if the party enters the Sea's Bounty tavern in the Docks District (perhaps as part of Edwin's quest), a mage in the employ of Baron Ployer may curse Jaheira. Note that Jaheira WILL die in 2 weeks if we don't get the curse lifted. We get three leads in our journal.
However, we can simply go to the Derelict home in the northeast of the Slums to confront Ployer and his backup mages, Terrece, Gracien and Malacazar. Slay them and loot the Lock of Jaheira's Hair from Ployer's corpse (18,000 XP + 21,250 XP). Then, rest a couple of times. The curse should be lifted, and the quest should complete in the journal.
Bring the poison man to his friends
Usually, en route to the de'Arnise Keep, a random hostile encounter triggers on the overworld. This encounter can also occur in the city of Athkatla, when travelling between districts.
After the party slays the thugs, they must take Renfeld's body to Rylock at the Galvarey Estate in the southwest of the Docks district (14,550 XP, 125 GP).
Find out what happened to Montaron
Just to the north, Xzar BG1 will spawn and ask the party to save Montaron BG1 from the Harpers in the estate. If we then question Rylock, he asks us to slay a Mage named Prebek who is living in a house just east of the Shadow Thief Guildhall. Return to Rylock after slaying Prebek, Sanasha and the goblins (5,000 XP + 14,400 XP). Now satisfied, Rylock grants us admission to the Galvarey Estate, aka Harper Hold.
Upstairs, three Spectral Harpists will be hostile unless we have the Harper Amulet obtained from a desk on the ground floor, but they yield good kill XP (27,000 XP total). Note that you will need magical weapons to hit them, though.
Pick up the Harper Bird in the cage (20,000 XP), take it to Xzar (35,500 Quest XP) and watch him cast Polymorph Other. Instead of reuniting with Montaron, Xzar is backstabbed by a Harper assassin named Lucette. You can return to the Harper Hold and recover Montaron's corpse from a chest upstairs (20,000 XP). Therefore, the infamous Zhentarim duo of BG1 are history.
For this second quest of Jaheira's, you want to get a high reputation or you will miss out on a bonus item and XP for Jaheira.
Summoned to the Harper Hold
This is the second quest for Jaheira. Meronia spawns after the completion of the above quest or when your romance with Jaheira enters a new stage (or you cancel it through dialogue). Jaheira leaves the party and goes to the Harper Hold, which is locked.
When she returns, go to the Harper Hold, meet Galvarey and slay him and his backup crew (12,500 XP). Loot the Ring of Wizardry from a mage's corpse. It is one of only two in the game.
A few days later, Reviane's crew should spawn for battle. Slay them.
Jaheira Renounces her Harper Status
Then, a few more days later, Dermin Courtierdale spawns for some dialogue.
The Return to the Harper Hold
Dermin appears for some more dialogue a few days later. When next we rest, Jaheira leaves the party. Terminsel (Elminster) then spawns to give CHARNAME Jaheira's Letter to Charname.
Back at the Harper Hold (Galvarey Estate in the southwest of the Docks district), we must slay the mercenaries and head upstairs to re-recruit Jaheira.
Jaheira Judged by the Harpers
Eventually, Dermin Courtierdale returns to take out Jaheira and Charname once and for all. After we slay Dermin and his party, Terminsel spawns again to give Jaheira the Harper Pin and 100,000 XP.
At the end of her Harper quest, Elminster gives Jaheira a Harper Pin which only she can wear (MISC5X: amulet slot). The pin confers Non-Detection, +5 save vs. Spell, Immunity to Magic Missile and 100% electrical resistance.
Jaheira's Biography
When asked about her past, JAHEIRA glares as she speaks. She says that she was born in the Tethyr region to a loyalist of the King Alemander regime, unfortunately during the Tethyrian civil war. Her family was among the nobles targeted by the angry mobs of peasants, and she was only spared because a servant girl took her from their castle before it fell. An enclave of Druids in the forest of Tethyr was willing to grant shelter, and Jaheira grew up headstrong in their care. She believes the only way to protect nature is to have an active role in the world, but the cost of this dedication seems to weigh heavily on her mind these days. She grows quiet when you ask about recent events, and while she gives the appearance of her normal, strong-willed self, there is a look of doubt in her eyes. It would seem that she has seen too many friends fall to remain unaffected. She does not like the subject, and lets it drop.
cf. BG1 Jaheira.
