IMPALER & IXIL'S SPIKE, BG2

Impaler & Ixil's Spike Baldur's Gate 2

Impaler and Ixil's Spike are BG2 best weapons in BioWare's cRPG of 2000, Baldur's Gate 2. The Impaler is a fave weapon of mine for its flat +10 piercing damage that makes it an attractive wield for the remainder of SoA; after which, one evolves to Ixil's Spike +6 to inflict I WIN on-hit pinning status on the victim. A nice progression for Jaheira is: Gnasher-Impaler-Ixil's.

Good weapons for Berserker Druids.

Impaler +3

The Impaler has a palpable aura of magic that hints at the vicious nature of the weapon and why it has been a favorite of several powerful orc chieftains in the past.  When a victim is struck they are, as one would guess, very nearly impaled, run through as the massive enchantment does its dirty work.

The stats for Impaler are THAC0 +3, 1d6 +3, +10 piercing.

Ixil's Spike +6

For many generations this magical shaft has been seperated from Ixil's Spike, the enchanted head of the legendary spear.  However, even incomplete, this artifact is still a weapon of great power. With shaft and tip reunited, Ixil's Spike is a fearsome weapon. During the battle the head can detach to pin opponents to the ground even as a new head magically reforms on the end of the spear.

The +6 enchantment allows the wielder to bypass Absolute Immunity. One of the rare +6 weapons, but it's the on-hit I WIN pinning status that seals the deal. Note the Free Action, though, which stupidly negates Haste and Improved Haste. To get around that, equip the weapon after H or IH has been cast.

Ixil's Spike Location

The Spike is found on the 2nd level of Watcher's Keep; the Nail on level 5. Thus, it is possible to wield as soon as we reach the Pocket Plane in ToB (Cespenar needs to craft it).

The stats for Ixil's Spike are THAC0 +6, 1d6 +6 piercing, perma-Free Action, on-hit save vs. Death or 3-round 1d6 +5 pinning per round.
