Haer'Dalis, Baldur's Gate 2 BG2 Companion

Haer'Dalis BG2

Haer'Dalis Location

Haer'Dalis is a Baldur's Gate companion in BioWare's cRPG of 2000, Baldur's Gate 2. Haer'Dalis is found in Mekrath's Lair in the north-east of the sewers beneath the Temple District in Athkatla at the start of Chapter 2 BG2.

Haer'Dalis' Stats

Haer'Dalis' low Constitution score does not matter because Blade BG2 means he verges on Best Armor Class Baldur's Gate. In addition, while not as good in spellcasting as Mage BG2, don't underestimate his ability to cast Best Spells Baldur's Gate (because most of the best spells are low-level and mid-level spells, not epic-level spells).

Haer'Dalis Biography

When asked about his past, HAER'DALIS states that he is from the city of Sigil, a nexus of the planes and the ever-changing domain of the Lady of Pain. He claims he cannot explain it better than that, as the planars defy description by their very nature. Haer'Dalis traveled with a troupe of players, tieflings of plane-touched heritage like he, and they put on masterful productions to amuse both cambion and common berk alike. An indiscretion led to the troupe fleeing to the Prime Material Plane... here... which didn't bother Haer'Dalis much. He says that he is a Doomguard, believing in the inevitable decay of all things to make way for the new. The troupe has divided, but the tiefling bard is confident that new experience can only come of it.

Haer'Dalis' Quest

Haer'Dalis can be discovered independently of Quayle, Aerie and Raelis. We do not need to have been to the Circus Tent or Five Flagons Inn playhouse theatre beforehand.

Raelis Shai asks for Aid

Go to the basement in the Five Flagons Inn in the Bridge District (playhouse theatre). After watching the play, Raelis requests that we free Haer'Dalis from the clutches of the wizard, Mekrath.

Free Haer'Dalis from Imprisonment by Mekrath

Go to the Temple district. There is a trapdoor that is marked on the map as being the entrance to the sewers. It is between the Temple of Talos and the High Hall of the Radiant Heart. The lair of Mekrath is located behind a secret door in the east of the sewers. The entrance is so secretive that it is marked on our map. Note that Keldorn can be found just to the south, but is irrelevant to this quest.

Go upstairs to access Mekrath's lair. We must slay Mekrath in order to free Haer'Dalis and recruit him. Haer'Dalis spawns near the stairs when Mekrath dies. At this point, Haer'Dalis can be recruited into the party

Retrieve Haer'Dalis' Gem

We must loot the Portal Gem from the locked and trapped altar in the lair and take it back to Raelis Shai in the Five Flagons Inn (21,250 XP, 1,000 GP).

Rescue Haer'Dalis and Raelis Shai from the Planar Prison

After the portal segment and bounty hunter dialogue, Haer'Dalis and Raelis Shai are kidnapped and taken to the Planar Prison BG2. Slay the Master of Thralls in the northeast and loot the Orb of Mastery from its corpse. Then, destroy the orb by putting it into the brazier in the south (24,750 XP). Then, slay the Warden demonknight, loot the Planar Prison Cell Key from its corpse, and free Raelis and Haer'Dalis in the west (44,000 Quest XP).

Haer'Dalis can rejoin the party.

Haer'Dalis' Weapons

Haer'Dalis dual-wields magical tiefling short swords:

Entropy

This +2 abyssal greensteel blade is one of Haer'Dalis' favorite weapons. This shortsword is capable of inflicting an additional three points of poison damage if the target fails a saving throw. This blade may only be used by tieflings.

  • 3 points of poison damage if target fails save
  • THAC0: +2 bonus
  • Damage: 1D6 +2
  • Damage type: piercing
  • Weight: 2
  • Speed Factor: 0
  • Proficiency Type: Short Sword
  • Type: 1-handed
  • Usable By: Tieflings

Chaos Blade

Chaos is a +2 short-sword usable only by tieflings. Everytime it strikes an opponent, he or she loses 2 points of dexterity (for 30 seconds). Haer'Dalis prefers using Chaos with its partner -- Entropy. When dual wielding these two blades, Haer'Dalis is a dangerous opponent.

  • Special Abilities: Target loses 2 points of dexterity each hit (duration: 30 seconds)
  • THAC0: +2 bonus
  • Damage: 1D6 +2
  • Damage type:  piercing
  • Weight: 2
  • Speed Factor: 0
  • Proficiency Type: Short Sword
  • Type: 1-handed
  • Usable By: Tieflings

While those weapons are nice, Celestial Fury BG2 is far superior.

• Proficiencies: Shortsword, Dagger, Dart, Two Weapon Style (**).

Haer'Dalis should be tailored to Dual-wield BG2. Thus does he wield Kundane BG2 off-hand; later Crom Faeyr.
