Cernd, Baldur's Gate 2 BG2 Companion

Cernd BG2

Cernd Location

Cernd is a Baldur's Gate companion in BioWare's cRPG of 2000, Baldur's Gate 2. Cernd is found locked in the basement of the Lord's house in Trademeet at the start of Chapter 2

In non-SCS, Cernd can easily defeat Faldorn in the Druid Grove if he is NOT in the party (scripted event). We just tell him to meet us at the grove, and then tell him we'll watch him take on Faldorn once we reach her lair in the north of the grove. After that, he can still join the party even if we refused him in Trademeet.

While Shapeshifting is weak, Druid spellcasting is not: Cernd can cast powerful spells such as Insect PlagueCreeping Doom and Nature's Beauty.

Cernd's Stats

As Shapeshifter BG2, Cernd's abysmal martial stats don't matter much. For divine spellcasters, the important stat is Wisdom.

Cernd Biography

When asked about his past, CERND declares in a steady and modest tone that it has been his honor to serve nature in whatever capacity she did call upon him.  It is clear that he is a dedicated servant, and though his demeanor is contemplative and well measured, you are certain that he would not hesitate to risk himself if it would best serve the greater balance.

Cernd's Quest

Cernd's Child

  • After the quest Animal Trouble in Trademeet has been completed, Igarol tracks down Cernd. It seems Cernd has a child.
  • Cernd's former home is located in Waukeen's Promenade, next to the Adventurer's Mart. Inside, Catis refers us to Fennecia whose home is just above Cernd's former home. Inside, the Nanny refers us to Deril's mansion in the Government district (have Cernd walk outside to get this info).
  • It doesn't matter how we deal with Deril: Cernd gets his child back (20,000 XP, 50,000 XP for Cernd). However, if we fight Deril we receive an extra 26,000 XP.
  • If we return to the Druid Grove, Cernd can rejoin the party.

***

Cernd comes equipped with staff and cloak.

Staff of the High Forest

This staff was the culmination of a cycle of seasons in which Cernd meditated on his role within nature.  His perch for this personal journey was next to a sapling, a young oak that was a particular interest of study; it seemed odd, and yet somehow wonderfully ordered.  At the coming of spring Cernd examined it one last time, and it came loose in his hands, a living staff, granted as boon from nature herself.  It has grown to fit his grip, and few others may wield it.

Cloak of the High Forest

When younger, Cernd spent a cycle of seasons meditating on his role within nature.  He made no shelter, wanting to feel the land unhindered.  Nature may have appreciated the intent, she also knows that, for all their dedication, at times her children can be foolish.  Cernd found this cloak before the cold season set in, seemingly woven to fit him from the very undergrowth.  The message was clear: he can appreciate the rain while still seeking shelter from it.  Only Cernd may use this cloak.
