Human Baldur's Gate 1

Human Baldur's Gate 1

When in doubt, roll with Human.

Human is a Baldur's Gate race in BioWare cRPGs of 1998-2001, Baldur's Gate 1 and Baldur's Gate 2. Along with Half-Elves, Humans are the most flexible race as it pertains to Baldur's Gate class.

Humans can be any class, any Mage specialist, and can dual-class into any multi-class combo that isn't triple-class, including Ranger Cleric. In addition, they can dual-class from and to Specialists.

Only Humans can be Paladins, but only Humans are locked out of multi-classing.

Human Description Baldur's Gate

Humans are the predominant race in Faerun. Humans rule most of the significant empires and kingdoms in the Forgotten Realms. They are the most social and tolerant of races, excepting perhaps the halflings. The only special ability that a human possesses is that they may advance as any class, and advance to any level.

Note that Human Fighters with at least 15 Strength and 17 Dexterity, Intelligence and Wisdom can dual-class into ThiefMage or Cleric at any point after reaching second level. That's called "flexibility" post-Chargen, but Charisma and maybe also Constitution would need to be dumped in order to meet multiple prereqs (depending on the Chargen roll).

If they are of True Neutral alignmment and also have 17 Wisdom and 17 Charisma, they can dual-class to Druid. Thus, we can change our character depending on our Baldur's Gate party composition or preferred playstyle. Half-Elves sport similar choices, but only during Chargen. Dual-classing is the only way to change the nature of a character in AD&D 2nd Edition, post-Chargen; technically, there are no builds.

In Baldur's Gate, from-Fighter dual-classes result in the most powerful physical-based damage dealers, supertankers and backstabbers.

In BG2, Humans can no longer dual-class to Specialists, and multi-classes pull ahead of most dual-classes. That said, Humans can now dual-class to Kensai Mage and Kensai Thief. Extreme dual-class builds open up as well, such as:

Humans are also the only race that can be Monks or Paladin Inquisitors (the cheesiest prestige class).
