Elf Baldur's Gate 1

Elf Baldur's Gate 1

Elf is a Baldur's Gate race in BioWare cRPGs of 1998-2001, Baldur's Gate 1 and Baldur's Gate 2.

In terms of Baldur's Gate class restrictions, Elves cannot be Paladins, Druids or Bards. In addition, they can only be Fighter, Thief and Mage multi-classes, not Cleric or Druid multi-classes, unlike Half-Elves

However, like Half-Elves, Elves can triple-class as Fighter Mage Thief, which is welcome.

Dexterity +1Constitution -1. [THAC0 +1 wielding longbows and longswords]

Elf Description

Elves tend to be shorter and slimmer than normal humans. Their features are finely chiseled and delicate, and they speak in melodic tones. Elves are looked upon as being frivolous and aloof. They concern themselves with natural beauty, dancing,  frolicking, and other similar pursuits. Their humor is clever, as are their songs and poetry. Elves have a natural resistance to charm and sleep magics. They can see in the dark with infravision, and they are very skilled in the use of the bow and long sword.  They have a bonus to their dexterity, but incur a penalty to their constitution. There are five racial divisions of elves within the Realms: Gold elves, Moon elves, Wild elves, Sea elves, and Drow.

Elves can Specialize as Diviner or Enchanter. Divination is a poor Specialization but Enchantment can be good even though we forego Evocation spells (because divide & conquer is very powerful). Note that Humans and Half-Elves can also be Enchanters, and Humans can dual-class to Enchanter, so this school is not exclusive to Elves.

The Dexterity +1 is nice for a ranged THAC0 boost and +1 AC in the early game, but quickly becomes irrelevant.

Note that Elven 90% resistance to Sleep and Charm is not implemented in BG1. Thus, Elves must make their saving throws vs. such spells. However, the Drow MR of both Viconia and Drizzt was implemented.
