Slayer Irenicus is a Baldur's Gate enemy and Baldur's Gate 2 boss in BioWare's cRPG of 2000, Baldur's Gate 2. Slayer Irenicus is the Elven Mage, Jon Irenicus, in Slayer BG2 form. We face off against Slayer Irenicus in Hell after beating Exile Irenicus at the Tree of Life.
How to Beat Slayer Irenicus
Slayer Irenicus was much harder to beat under the Shadows of Amn XP cap of 2.95 million than he is with Throne of Bhaal installed, which increased the XP cap to 8 million, and introduced HLAs.
To open proceedings, Irenicus gates in 2x Glabrezu and 2x Balor before shifting into the Slayer and firing Spell Shield followed up by Spell Trigger (Mislead) and Spell Turning:
We can dispel Mislead with True Sight or Detect Illusions (Jan BG2) and then dispel Spell Turning and Spell Shield with Secret Word, Ruby Ray of Reversal, Khelben's Warding Whip, Pierce Shield or Spellstrike.
Once its illusions and spell protections have been removed and its sprite is clearly visible, we can unleash direct damage spells on Slayer Irenicus. If we want to physically hit the thing with the best weapons BG2, we should Breach its Fire Shield (Red) to avoid on-hit retribution.
However, to complicate matters, Slayer Irenicus is likely to teleport about the battlefield, recast Mislead and also cast the likes of Symbols, Sunfire, Wail of the Banshee and ADHW. Thus, Detect Illusions or True Sight should always be active, and the party should be warded from fear and insta-death (e.g, Chaotic Commands & Death Ward).
Calling for recastings of Breach, Slayer Irenicus may also cast Absolute Immunity and PfMW. While its combat protections are down, it can be useful to mob Slayer Irenicus with our warriors in order to inflict spell disruption, not just damage.
Slayer Irenicus has a THAC0 BG2 of -12 and inflicts an average of 31.5 crushing damage at a rate of 2 ApR BG2, wielding its claw that inflicts 1d6 +14 + 2 cold.
Defensively, the unhelmed Slayer Irenicus has an Armor Class BG2 of -10 and 217 HPs. It regenerates 6 HPs per second and has 50% magic resistance BG2 and 50% resistance to fire and magic fire.
Slayer Irenicus Immunities
Slayer Irenicus is immune to Summoned Demons, Confusion, Poison, Hold, Polymorph, Power Word: Sleep, Sleep, Slay, Imprisonment, Charm, Level Drain, Berserk, Panic, Power Word: Kill, Petrification, Stun, Energy Drain, Domination and Finger of Death. cf. Best Spells BG2.
Irenicus' Demons
Irenicus gates in two each of custom Baalor and Glabrezu demons, aka Tanar'ri. To beat them, warriors can mob the demons or we can lure them into preset traps. To win the game, defeating the demons is not required: only Slayer Irenicus must be vanquished.

The two Glabrezu Tanar'ri have THAC0s of 4 and inflict 17.5 crushing damage at a rate of 5 ApR, wielding 3d6 claws. They have ACs of -10 and 80 HPs as well as 50% magic resistance and 100% resistance to fire, cold, acid and poison.
