Immortal King Build D2
Immortal King is a Diablo 2 Build in Blizzard North's cRPG of 2000, Diablo 2. The Immortal King set is underrated for Barbarian in that it's pretty easy to farm or get in trades, plugs lots of holes and offers a degree of customization by virtue of its five sockets. Socketed correctly, the IK set is certainly one of the very few Hell-proof sets.
cf. Barbarian PC Games.
Our amulet, ring and jewel selection are very important: we need the extra edge offered by them. And, from my experience, an Act Two Nightmare Offensive Merc is required for his Might aura which adds to our raw physical damage.
First up, let's take a look at the set items. The IK set consists of six items. The items are shown with their fullset bonuses applied.
Immortal King's Stone Crusher ogre maul
The two-socket ogre maul is double-Shael'd for +IAS. It is one percentage point shy of flaunting perfect crushing blow. The crushing blow, IAS and enhanced damage are welcome, but the elemental damage is all but useless in Hell due to enemies sporting resistances. Unless we are dedicated to an element (lightzon or lightsorc), elemental damage is only useful in Normal and Nightmare modes. Also, that 204 poison over 6 secs is a bad joke: first level twinks can do better.
◦ Optimization: Replace Shaels with +15% IAS jewels.
Immortal King's Soul Cage sacred armor
The sacred armor has been Larzuk-socketed and Ber'd for 8% damage reduction (44% DR total). By itself this armor is unimpressive but when worn in conjunction with other set items, it's decent. Being of the sacred tier, this is by far the hardest item in the set to find. Good luck with that. I found mine in the Pit after finding several each of the other set items. That should give you an indication of its rarity.
Immortal King's Will avenger guard
Sporting a perfect Magic Find roll, the avenger guard also has its two sockets fitted with Bers for 16% DR (44% DR total). Without its sockets, this helm would be a joke.
Immortal King's Pillar war boots
Pretty poor boots, these. But we'll take the +run/walk and the +life.
Immortal King's Forge war gauntlets
+20 Strength, +20 Dexterity, 10% mana steal, 10% life steal and +25 IAS? Awesome gloves.
Immortal King's Detail war belt
The 20% damage reduction is key along with +25 Strength. This is a great, great belt.
• Raven Frost unique ring:
Lacking a godly rare ring, two Raven Frosts will have to do for now. Ideally, we would wear one godly rare with +20 Strength and other appropriate mods, and one RF for its vital Cannot Be Frozen mod.
Highlord's Wrath unique amulet:
The amulet is worn primarily for the +IAS and Deadly Strike bestowed though many players will prefer to roll with the Angelics for +AR. This can result in a notable +10% chance to hit, for example, a Worldstone Keep Death Lord.
Hellfire Torch large charm:
These are welcome high rolls.
Ideally, we want stacks of:
- Fine Small Charm of Vita, perfect
- Sharp Grand Charm of Vita, perfect
- Shimmering Small Charm of Vita, perfect
- Shimmering Grand Charm of Vita, perfect
- Fine Small Charm of Balance, perfect
And maybe:
On-switch. I currently have Heart of the Oak and Call to Arms runewords equipped for the extra +1 to Shout and +4 to Battle Orders bestowed.
IMMORTAL KING Mercenary. Act Two Nightmare Offensive for his Might aura. He wields ethereal Reaper's Toll thresher and wears ethereal Treachery or ethereal Fortitude, and Guillaume's Face, ethereal Vampire Gaze or ethereal Andy's.
IMMORTAL KING Stats & Skilldex
Damage here shown includes the Might aura and procced 5th level Enchant, buffed with HotO/CtA:
I have since respecced because I forgot to take Increased Speed when I respecced for this write-up. Without access to teleport, the +run/walk is necessary.
IMMORTAL KING Whirlwind
Whirlwind is our primary attack along with Berserk. The latter is absolutely required in order to vanquish physical-immunes.
Mode of operation is as follows: switch to HotO/CtA and buff with Battle Command, Shout and Battle Orders. Ensure merc is in the AoE or he will be as weak as a kitten. Then, Whirlwind the mobs and switch to Berserk for tougher enemies and physical-immunes.
Above all, don't expect to kick ass in Hell mode. This is a weak build compared to frenzybarbs. However, it's easy to put together, cosmetically cool, and a challenge to play. This is a stepping stone to something better.
