sfall Fallout 2

sfall Fallout 2

sfall is an engine modification for Black Isle's cRPG Definition of 1998, Fallout 2. The sfall mod for Fallout 2 is notable for its added configurability, built-in compatibility features and game system additions, extensions and enhancements.

Many Fallout 2 mods employ sfall, such as:

Fallout 2 Companion Control

Most notably, sfall adds an option to enable in-combat Full Party Control, which the original Fallout devs eschewed in favor of dumb AI [1].

Full Party control is toggled in the Combat Control section [CombatControl] of sfall-mods.ini.

  • Allows you to directly control other critters in combat
  • Set to 2 to control all party members
  • Mode=2

sfall FPC allows us to control companions in combat and access their inventories and character sheets directly. However, sfall FPC does not employ marquee selection or movement and positioning of combat units outside of combat. cf. Best Combat cRPGs.

Other Notable Features of sfall Fallout 2

  • Increase game speed up to 10x
  • Increase combat and dialogue panel anim speed
  • Remove fade effect by reducing multiplier to 0
  • Instant update of HP/AC counters (set to 2)
  • Highlight interactables (Shift key)
  • Access extra saveslots
  • Companion auto-leveling
  • Extend pathfinding distance
  • Increase or decrease world map movement speed and encounter rate
  • Modify or remove time limits
  • Skip Opening Movies
  • World Map Terrain Info
  • Bonus Damage Display
  • Light Emitting Explosions & Projectiles
  • Instant Equip/Unequip Weapons (bypass anims)
  • Mouse Scroll Wheel Employment
  • Fast Move From Container
  • (Optional) Fixes: Fast Shot Fix, Small Frame Fix, Super Stim Exploit Fix, Dialogue Fix, Town Map Hotkey Fix, Save in Combat Fix, Bonus HtH Damage Fix, Car Charging Fix, Car Tile Placement Fix, AI Best Weapon Fix.

sfall Limitations

  • There is no ability to increase enemy movement speed in turn-based combat mode.
  • Does not fix enemies spawning on red exit grids
  • Does not fix companions chasing enemies off-screen (we lose our companion)
  • Compared to Stracciatella and 1.13 for Jagged Alliance 2, end-user configuration of game mechanics is exceedingly limited in terms of externalization of data into editable text files. For example, sfall does not externalize item, encounter or NPC files for easy end-user modding like Stracc does, nor does it let us modify perks, their stackability or their acquisition frequency, when it easily could.

sfall Fallout 1

There has never been a polished sfall equivalent for Fallout 1.

The reasons given by Interplay developers for eschewing FPC don't hold much water; namely, that controlling one character facilitates more or better (PC-focused) reactivity. But Mask of the Betrayer and Planescape Torment have FPC and yet they both feature more and better PC-focused reactivity than Fallout. Still, the lack of FPC does not stop Fallout from being not only the best cRPG of all-time, but also the genre-defining cRPG.
