Olympus 2207 Guide Fallout 2

Olympus 2207 Guide Fallout 2

Olympus 2207 is an sfall mod for Black Isle's cRPG Definition of 1998, Fallout 2. Olympus 2207 is notable for its custom world, graphics assets and revamped UI as well as its crafting system, lore-journal and overworld radiation mechanic.

Use the Shift key to highlight interactables. Note that interactables only highlight when in Line of Sight (LoS); that is, if you have not opened the door to a room the interactables in the room will not highlight because your character can't yet see them. Logic, son. Logic.

The currency in O2207 is not caps, gold or scalps, but rather Batteries. Be sure to utilize merchant battery reserves when trading with them.

Instead of Stimpaks, there are Heal-ups. Rainbow Raiders sell the most "consumables."

*Asterisked* items are plot-critical or quest items.

What you are wearing (robes, armor) can identify you as friend or foe, determining whether a faction is instantly hostile to you or not.

Best Build Olympus 2207

The best Fallout 2 Build for Olympus 2207 is a Fast Shot Gunfighter that focuses on Small Guns and Big Guns. You also need to invest in Outdoorsman, Speech, Science, Lockpick and Repair. Unless you like hitting frequent roadblocks, get your main firearm skill to 150 and the core utility skills to 100. When the core utility skills reach 100, continue raising the firearm skill to 180.

Allow me to emphasize Speech: You will be able to skip quite a lot of FedEx if you get it to 100.

Radiation Olympus 2207

Radiation is a global mechanic rather than zone-specific (e.g, The Glow in Fallout 1). As you explore the overworld, you will be increasingly irradiated due to radiation exposure, and eventually succumb to its effects. Without strong radiation resistance (which in Fallout usually comes from wearing Advanced Power Armor or taking Rad-X), you only have the Endurance stat that protects (somewhat) against radiation exposure and radiation level increases.

In O2207, Environmental Armor and top-tier mechanized armor such as MCA Defender (see Armor section below) confer strong radiation resistance, but you won't have such luxuries in the early game.

That said, radiation poisoning can be cured with RadOut (a similar consumable to RadAway) or by NPCs such as the ghoul doctor, Gromus, in Metro Station.

Olympus 2207 Quests

There are approximately 70 quests in Olympus 2207. You start off in the underground Residential district of Tartarus, a settlement located in The Radius, O2207's version of The Wasteland.

The Beginning

A Guardian in the west of Residential was injured fending off ghoul forces invading from the Purgatory cavern. Go to Dr. Pat to get the Guardian some meds. You return with a painkiller only to find the Guardian has been slain while fending off another ghoul, yet you will be judged as the assailant by the other Guardians, who open fire on you.

Since the Guardians can't be bargained with or reasoned with (you are but a lowly servant), make your way to the green exit grid in the west of Residential and escape Tartarus via the ghoul-infested Purgatory that leads to the surface. [1]

Note that you now have an Organizer, which is the equivalent of the Fallout PipBoy. Hit the P key to call it up.

Tartarus Quests

  • Your father is badly irradiated. You need to find a way back to Tartarus and help him.
  • Your father needs something called "Antiradine". Find it and bring it to Dr. Pat in Tartarus (this quest is given when returning to Dr. Pat in Residential after getting the Herald's Robes from Sunset Jackals).
  • Help Dr. Pat get the workers of Tartarus back on their feet. Use Doctor skill or Heal-ups on prone servants in Farms and Maintenance.
  • Recruit Kirk as Companion (only after returning with Antiradine).

You find yourself on the world map aka overworld known as The Radius.

The object is to get back into Tartarus to help your ailing father, but the Guardians are hostile so for now Tartarus is off-limits. There is no time limit to help your father, everything is scripted. What that means is, there is no need to hurry, there is no urgency. Explore as you like, take your time.

But it is probably best to make your way to Metro Station, where you can advance the plot and get some XP and cash-flow.

Unless you want to get splattered all over the place, avoid bumbling into Olympus Tower for now (it's sort of an end-game location). And if you get ambushed and slain by random encounters on the overworld, "Get Good, son".

Metro Station Quests

Headed up by a ghoul named Bono, Metro Station aka Undead Caves is located two squares east of Olympus. Its platform section also leads back to Tartarus farms, but you need the Herald's Robes disguise first.

As banal and inane as these FedEx quests are for veterans of Fallout 2, you should at least complete three of them.

You need to help both Robin and Gromus before Bono will help you infiltrate Tartarus. After you do the bolded quests, Bono should mark your map with the location of the Sunset Jackals base, where you are supposed to get uniform robes to wear as a disguise.

  • Help out the Seekers and bring them some apples and firewood (Robin).
  • Go hunting with Gromus and collect 2 scorpion tails (optional: take a shovel).
  • Gather 10 local residents for Bono's speech.
  • Priestley asked to bring him a bag of fertilizer for the gardens.
  • Peter asked you to clean the clogged toilet. You need a special tool (a plunger).
  • You need to find a way to calm baby Lily and help her sleep.
  • Help Joe find his lost wife.
  • Hugo needs a Combatid and 5 Heal-Ups to storm Tartarus.

Sunset Jackals Quests

Led by Loudmouth (son of the Jackal), the Sunset Jackals stronghold is located seven diagonal squares northwest of Olympus. Bono of Metro Station can mark it on the map. You can get some good guns and armor here but you probably don't have enough batteries yet. Find Ursul on the Headquarters map. Guy is a big-game hunter standing over the corpse of an ursa-beast.

Ursul can mark Rainbow Raiders on your map. And after joining him on a hunt for more ursa, he also marks The Mangy Dog on your map, where Fred and the robes are supposed to be.

  • Carl's machine broke down, he needs parts from Chris Murena's warehouse.
  • Search and get hold of an Ultra Repair Kit (Location: Loudmouth's bunker).
  • Find a rare whetstone for Harry.
  • Go on a hunt with Ursul. Try not to die.
  • Casper holds a grudge against Vince. You should help Vince.
  • Loudmouth wants to have a necklace made of Chimera fangs. He needs 3 more.
  • Oswald Brown wouldn't mind to get hold of a rare vintage "Slugger" pistol.
  • Billy Stone wants you to stand guard outside the room while he's with Shiva.
  • Chris Murena asked you to get rid of Kyle and find a replacement for him.

The Mangy Dog: Fred's House

The Mangy Dog is located a full 15 squares east of Sunset Jackals.

Fred is found in his house, upstairs:

  • Fred has laid mines around the house, but has forgotten where they are. Find and clear at least 5.
  • Fight off the attacking Onca Devils (x4, 620 kXP ea.)

Fred gives you the Herald's Robes after you clear his perimeter of mines.

Make your way back to Metro Station and then to its Platform and Passage maps, which are beneath the Halls. Duped by your disguise, the guards grant you unhindered access to Tartarus.

To find out what is required to help your father, make your way back to Residential and talk to Dr. Pat, who gives you a lead on the location of Antiradine: the Rainbow Raiders stronghold.

Rainbow Raiders Quests

Led by The Hog, The Rainbow Raiders stronghold is located six squares northeast of Olympus. Go to the Bar. The Apothecary refers you to Mate when you ask about Antiradine. You can find Mate in the bar, off to the right.

At Mate's request, head to the cave in the west, take out the ants, loot their glowing abdomens and deliver them to the Apothecary in the Bar. After that, Mate gives you the Antiradine as promised.

For some bad news, return to the Doc in Tartarus. Kirk can now join you as a companion.

  • Mate asks to bring 8 ant bellies from the farm and give them to Apothecary (merchant behind the bar).
  • The Apothecary asks you to find out the identity of the strange man in armor, sitting in the bar (Douglas).
  • In one of the fights in the arena, Douglas lost his badge. Find the badge and give it back to Douglas (it's in the Arena map).
  • G, the leader of a gang of teenagers, demands 5 bottles of cognac for the right to become a member of the gang.
  • G intends to rob the caravan! This is your chance!
  • Help the poor woman.
  • The Shepherd asked you to deal with Brick
  • Naomi asked to help her escape.
  • Lenny doesn't understand why his friend Carl isn't coming back from the dead.
  • Hog asks you to negotiate a non-aggression treaty with the Sunset Jackals.
  • The Shepherd can't handle all the stoned visitors and asks for help.

To enter Olympus Tower under the guise of Douglas, bring Douglas' badge to him from the Arena map or pass a Speech check, which updates your Personal Diary with Olympus infiltration potential as well as a list of items Douglas was assigned by Olympus to acquire:

  • Rapture Location: Rainbow Raiders
  • Ultra Repair Kit Location: Loudmouth's bunker, Sunset Jackals
  • Plasma Rifle Prototype Location: Livos
  • NWO Encyclopedia Location: Mayor of New World Order

You do NOT need any of the above items to gain access to Olympus Tower. Nor do you need the badge, the Note, the scout armor or the Voice Modulator. You only need the Herald's Robes, Douglas' name and Speech 100.

You can Steal the Note from Douglas aka his Olympus assignment or simply slay him for it. But like I said, you don't need it.

You should also get Douglas to mark the location of the Army Headquarters on your map.

Olympus Tower Quests

Olympus Tower is located four squares east of Tartarus. A 103-storey skyscraper, the Tower is guarded by turrets and Defenders clad in mechanized armor, who are like Enclavers in the original Fallout 2.

To get into the Tower underhandedly, you need to wear the Herald's Robe and give the gate guard Douglas' name. In short, you are posing as the Olympus scout, Douglas. If you are not uniformed in the faction of Olympus, the Defenders open fire.

  • Richards ordered you to use a pheromone feral Chimera and bring it to Phillipp Gray (The injection is only effective only for around a week).
  • Phillipp Gray is convinced that Constantine Zochkis, the head of the Design and Engineering Bureau, must die as soon as possible. Accelerate this process.
  • Diamond Crank needs a pre-war prototype of the "Baraka" Machinegun. Bring it to him (it's in the Army Headquarters).
  • Diamond Crank needs you to bring Ludwig Schwein to him.
  • Captain 34 asks you to fill out all the documentation forms and conduct weapon tests.
  • Go to the Server floor. Someone waits for you there.
  • KILL ANDERSON!
  • Use the resources of the Olympus Tower as you see fit.
  • Sergeant Jock has his eye on Kelly from the biology floor. Convince Kelly to meet with Jock.
  • Moreau can't calibrate the cloning machine. Bring him a woman from Tartarus to experiment on (you can calibrate the CM without getting the woman).
  • The cloning machine's power cell has run out of power. Go to Zochkis on Engineering floor to find out what to do with that.
  • Dick is waiting for a clone of his wife Beatrice, promised to him by Gray for his services. Moreau might help.
  • To complete the clone, Dr. Moreau needs the Stem Cells Essence from Biolaboratory 2.
  • Taylor can fix the advanced Lumenier mechanized suit if you bring him the servo from a similar suit.

Now inside (Horton Lobby), you are posing not as Douglas but rather as Herald Gregorius aka Greg when meeting Captain Richards. The Captain gives you Scout Armor and an Obedience Syringe before marking your map and sending you off to the Chimera Bunker to recover a Queen Chimera, which is the O2207 Deathclaw equivalent. While at the bunker, you might as well grab Scientific Report: Biolab #2 Reports.

x5 Weak Chimera (170 HPs), 1x Queen Chimera (280 HPs). You don't kill the Queen but rather administer it a serum that causes it to follow you like a trained dog.

Upon your return with the living Queen Chimera in tow, Richards gives you the Biology Access Card which you insert into the elevator terminal. Enter "031" and then hit the blue button to arrive at the Biology Institute, Level 31.

On Level 31, Phillipp Gray gives you the Engineering Access Card, requesting that you take out Constantine Zochkis on Level 51: Engineering Bureau, from whose corpse is looted the Physics Access Card.

Now under lockdown due to the death, Engineering's main power supply has been shut off. To restore power head out to the Overlook (west exit grid) and use the control terminal on the balcony.

Return to Level 31 and inform Phillipp Gray of your success to receive the code to the console in Constantine's office: "2358."

Next, use the Physics Access Card on the Power Network Console in Constantine's office, and enter the code "2358". Then, use the same card again on the now-functioning desk calculator behind the elevator to unlock the card for elevator access to the Physics Laboratories on Level 63.

There are two physicists of note: Taylor and Diamond "The Madman" Crank.

Taylor gives you AS-2000 MKII Armor when you give him a Servo-Actuator whereas Crank gives you the X2 Access Card when you give him the Baraka Machinegun found at the Army Base. The X2 Access Card unlocks the Presentation Room on Level 96.

On Level 96, Captain #34 carries the X1 Access Card. Unable to steal it from his person (should have been able to), I decided to just punch a hole through him with my hand-crafted Jackal's Revolver.

The X1 Access Card unlocks the Server Room on Level 79 as well as the Control Rooms on Level 103.

After dialogue with the Systematizer AI in the Server Room, unlock the door in the Tower's Control Room with "1234" to face off against the final boss, Anderson.

As Anderson raises his armored wall and three shields, you will be flanked by Laser Turret, Grenade Turret, 2x Plasma Turret and Defender wielding SLR-4 Laser Rifle.

Destroy the defensive shields (530 HPs) and then take out Anderson (3 HPs).

Olympus 2207 main quest concluded.

You can also attempt to invade the Tower by force. Note, however, that one of the perimeter Defenders wields Hellbringer Flamethrower and another fires extreme-range rockets from a Crusader. If you get inside the Tower after beating them, you can still explore as normal (if you wear the Robes) or go on a rampage for the Access Cards.

New World Order Quests

New World Order aka NWO is located seven squares south and four west of Tartarus.

  • Mark asked you to make peace between his wife Lucy and his advisor Sam.
  • Burns asked you to find out who would replace the dying Mark as a Mayor.

Weapons Olympus 2207

A sample of weapons in Olympus 2207. Skill- and component-permitting, you can assemble weapons yourself or purchase them through Sunset Jackals, Rainbow Raiders and other merchants.

The two six-shooters depicted below could punch holes through engine blocks.

Colt Python Revolver

This one blows heads clean off! One of the most popular revolvers, made famous by starring in many detective noir movies of the '70s.

  • Damage: 26-30
  • Range: 23
  • AP Cost: 5 (single shot)
  • Ammo: 6/6 Magnum Bullets
  • Min ST: 6.

Solid damage, fast-firing and decent range. It doesn't get any better than this.

Max damage vs. MCA Defender with a single shot: 122 (Unaimed) / 156 (Eye-shot).

The Colt Python is found for sale at the gunshop at Sunset Jackals. Luminiers also carry them.

Jackal's Revolver

The signature revolver of the Jackal himself. A nice gun to pop the heads of your enemies like melons.

  • Damage: 24-36
  • Range: 16
  • AP Cost: 6 (single) / 6 (3-round burst)
  • Ammo: 6/6 .50 BMG
  • Min ST: 6.
  • Assembly Components: Jackal Barrel, Jackal Drum, Jackal Grip, Pistol Repair Kit

Jackal's Revolver Location

While damaging and capable of burst fire, the range is pathetic. Even if you roll with mobile pistoleer (Bonus Move x2, AB +2), you want more range.

All of the parts for the Jackal's Revolver are found at Sunset Jackals stronghold. Go to Sunset Jackals Storehouse map, loot the Jackal Grip from the floor of the store, show the Grip to Kyle to get the Jackal Drum, and buy the Pistol Repair Kit from Kyle as well. The Jackal Barrel is found on the Headquarters map in Loudmouth's bunker, the entrance to which is concealed by an isometric wall. You can also find the Ultra Repair Kit in the bunker.

Optics .223 Pistol

A technical wonder - a special custom-made pistol in .223 with an attached scope, which allows you to pick off your enemies at a distance with ease.

  • Damage: 8-16
  • Range: 34
  • Ammo: 10/10 .223 FMJ / AP / Custom
  • Min ST: 4.

9mm Glocker Pistol Auto

The 9mm Glocker pistol, manufactured by D&R, is a classic representative of the German military industry. Very accurate and reliable. An improved model of the "Glocker" pistol that can fire with bursts. Even more fun with a 9mm weapon.

  • Damage: 8-14
  • Range: 24
  • Ammo: 18/18 9mm JHP / AP / HPS / Custom
  • Min ST: 5.

Helmuth SMG

A "Helmuth" submachine gun that was widely used by the National Guard until 2002. Its main qualities are simplicity and reliability, as well as decent firepower. A modified "Helmuth" SMG with an added magazine for even more bursting fun.

  • Damage: 6-12
  • Range: 20
  • Ammo: 9mm JHP / AP / HPS / Custom
  • Min ST: 5.

Revengeton Shotgun

A pump-action shotgun that was widely in use by the police against not-so-innocent civilians. It's in good condition.

  • Damage: 18-28
  • Range: 16
  • Ammo: 7/7 12 ga. buckshot / long / slug / Custom
  • Min ST: 5.

N17A1 Assault Rifle Scoped

An automatic rifle from the 90s of the twentieth century. A reliable thing - valuable in combat, easy to handle and maintain. A standard N17A1 with a scope attached, for even more long-range precision.

  • Damage: 9-15
  • Range: 40
  • Ammo: 10/10 .223 FMJ / AP
  • Min ST: 6.

Baraka Machinegun

An experimental super-heavy machinegun, developed by the company "Britannic Engineering" to be used with the "Defender" mechanized combat armor system. An incredibly powerful recoil can easily tear an arm off!

  • Damage: 42-63
  • Range: 50
  • AP Cost: Single 5 / Burst 6
  • Rounds per Burst: 10
  • Ammo: 20/20 .50 BMG
  • Min ST: 10.

Law Machinegun

A heavy machine gun, developed by "Civil Defense" company for the US Army for paramilitary police units. Usually mounted on lightly armored vehicles, it has proven itself as an excellent tool against protesters!

  • Damage: 18-28
  • Range: 35
  • Ammo: 60/60 .50 BMG
  • Min ST: 8.

Hurricane Minigun

The portable six-barreled NCASTR minigun "Hurricane" is *the* weapon for suppressing your opponents. A 75,000 rounds per minute .223 rain of lead is unlikely to leave anything standing alive.

  • Damage: 6-10
  • Range: 32
  • Ammo: 280/280 .223 FMJ / AP
  • Min ST: 8.

Heavy Rain Minigun

Like its predecessor, the "Heavy Rain" minigun tears through enemies like they are sheets of wet paper. It is powerful enough to destroy barricades and armored vehicles.

  • Damage: 9-16
  • Range: 27
  • Ammo: 400/400 .308 FMJ / Custom
  • Min ST: 9.

HMG-1A4 Flamelance

A rapid-fire flamethrower that shoots small balls of red-hot burning liquid out of six muzzles at a speed of 50,000 rounds per minute. Technically, it's more of a plasma minigun - but nobody seems to care, especially when everything around melts down at a searing 3000 degrees Celsius.

  • Damage: 4-8
  • Range: 12
  • Ammo: 500/500 BigBat Energy Cell
  • Min ST: 8.

Hellbringer

The poetic name of this incendiary monster speaks for itself. With this gun, the smell of burnt meat will stick firmly in your nostrils!

  • Damage: 65-120
  • Range: 5
  • Ammo: 8/8 Napalm
  • Min ST: 9.

EMP Rocket Launcher

A rocket launcher for special EMP rockets, designed against robots and electronics. The strongest burst of electromagnetic impulse doesn't leave them any chance.

  • Damage: 100-250
  • Range: 43
  • Ammo: 1/1 EMP Rocket
  • Min ST: 7.

Crusader Rocket Launcher

The NCASTR "Crusader" missile launcher fires surface-to-surface rockets. Sufficient power and accuracy ensure a high level of target destruction.

  • Damage: 30-120
  • Range: 50
  • Ammo: 1/1 HE Rocket / AP Rocket
  • Min ST: 8.

SnR Rocket Launcher

An ultra-long-range rocket launcher of the "Shoot'n'Run" type. That means it is impossible to reload. Just throw it away after a single shot.

  • Damage: 50-140
  • Range: 43
  • Ammo: 1/1 HE Rocket / AP Rocket
  • Min ST: 6.

Olympus 2207 Bugs & Misc.

Olympus 2207 does not support 640x480 screen resolution due to its custom user interface. While not a huge deal, I prefer UI panels to take up the entire screen with hardware scaling. On my system, Fallout 2 plays fastest this way.

At the beginning of the game, decline to receive hints because their pop-up menus can be problematic in that sometimes they simply won't go away. Imagine how annoying it is to have a menu blocking your viewport, locking you out of the game...

Save your game often in separate slots or you may regret it. For example, NPCs may move behind walls where they cannot be interacted with, only seen. They will never move and cannot be moved by the player (pushed). You must reload if that happens. Thankfully that bug is rare but by god did it infuriate me. Cause: Quest-giving NPC got spooked by nearby battle, moved away in TB mode, and became a statue behind a wall, post-combat.

Olympus Tower NPCs should not go hostile when you are wearing AS-2000 MKII armor since it was given to you by the Olympus scientist, Taylor.

The Tower interior should be hostile if you took out the exterior Defenders. There should be no way to quest in the tower if you slew its guards.

As a dedicated Rogue, you can't Sneak into the Tower and Steal the Access Cards due to scripted dialogues.

The mod doesn't give enough hints for some quests and areas. When you hit a roadblock and the solution isn't apparent at all, a lead should be given on how to proceed. Otherwise, players are completely lost and may just give up.

The battles are too small, even on Hard difficulty mode.

There don't seem to be any random encounters with Robber Caverns, which is one of the coolest things about Fallout 2.

You should be able to attach C4 explosives to any door or placeable, but you can't.

Olympus 2207 Graphics

The graphics of Olympus 2207 are custom. Sprites, placeables, FMVs, items, anim cycles, talking heads, UI panels, backgrounds -- they are all custom. The amount of time and effort that would have gone into that -- a lot.

Being a custom setting, the O2207 aesthetic diverges somewhat from the original one: the look is cleaner and more silver-metallic, but still post-apocalyptic.

The forested areas of Fallout 2 look better than O2207 forests.

Original:

O2207:

The original Fallout death anims are better than O2207 ones as well. That is the problem with redrawing the sprites: you have to redo the death anims.

Some of the UI buttons are a bit too small even at the lowest resolution the mod supports (800x600).

It is cool that the length of the combat feedback window is increased.

[1] "Why did you skip the Olympus 2207 tutorial?" Because the mod gave me the option to do so. As a cRPG veteran, I never play tutorials if I can skip them. If you want to derp around in a tutorial, feel free, but I prefer to get into the REAL game as soon as possible.
