Fallout 1 Perks



There are 53 perks in Interplay's cRPG Definition of 1997, Fallout 1. As a rule, one perk is acquired per three character levels. Since the level cap of Fallout 1 is 21, builds can therefore acquire a total of seven perks.

Perk acquisition is gated by the likes of character level, stat score or rank in skill. That is, many perks have prerequisites that must be met before they can be chosen. Some perks can be taken more than once, and their effects stack.

Perks do NOT accrue in Fallout 1. That means, for example, that you must spend your level 3 perk before reaching level 6 or you will lose the level 3 perk choice.

The utility of Fallout 1 perks ranges from highly useful to utterly useless. To avoid falling into the traps inherent in Fallout 1 character building, please refer to Fallout 1 Best Builds.

Action Boy Fallout 1



Action Boy grants +1 Action Point per rank attained. And while APs are important, you should already be swimming in APs from your AG stat, Fast Shot trait and Bonus Rate of Fire perk.


Animal Friend Fallout 1



With Animal Friend, non-mutated, normal animals don't attack unless provoked.

Awareness Fallout 1



Awareness allows you to see an enemy's hit points, thereby allowing you to make more informed decisions on which enemy to attack during combat. Newbies should take the Awareness perk whereas veterans should take Toughness or Quick Pockets.

Better Criticals Fallout 1



Better Criticals confers +20% on the critical hit table, thereby inflicting more damage when scoring critical hits. Thus, BC is in high demand.

Bonus HtH Attacks Fallout 1



Bonus HtH Attacks decreases HtH action point expenditure by 1 per HtH attack.


Bonus HtH Damage Fallout 1



Bonus HtH Damage confers +2 damage to each Unarmed and Melee Weapon attack.

Bonus Move Fallout 1



Bonus Move confers +2 movement action points per rank attained. Bonus Move is an excellent perk.

Bonus Ranged Damage confers +2 damage to each ranged weapon attack.

Bonus Rate of Fire decreases Ranged Weapon action point expenditure by 1 per ranged attack.

Cult of Personality Fallout 1



Cult of Personality confers a positive reputation, independent of karma.

  • Level required: 12
  • Prerequisite: CH 10

Dodge Fallout 1



Dodge grants +5% to armor class per rank attained.

  • Prerequisite: AG 4

Earlier Sequence grants +2 sequence aka "initiative" per rank attained.

Faster Healing grants +1 bonus to healing rate per rank attained.

Flower Child reduces the chances of chem addiction by 50%, and halves chem-withdrawal time.

Fortune Finder increases the amount of money found in wasteland random encounters.

Friendly Foe identifies non-hostiles on the battlescape with green highlights.

Ghost Fallout 1



Ghost confers +20% to the Sneak skill when in darkness.

Healer Fallout 1



Healer grants +2-5 hitpoints when healing via First Aid or Doctor skills.

Heave Ho Fallout 1



Per rank attained, Heave Ho grants +2 Strength for the purposes of determining range with thrown weapons.

Lifegiver Fallout 1



Lifegiver bestows 4 additional Hit points per rank attained.

Rad Resistance grants +10% radiation resistance per rank attained.

Ranger lowers the chances of being waylaid by hostiles on the overworld.

Scout increases world map exploration by visibilizing one extra square in each direction.
