The spear evolved out of a simple observation: the best way to avoid injury is to never let your opponent get within striking distance. While a spear is a great weapon for keeping that distance from your foes, it becomes awkward to wield without sufficient room to manoeuver.
- Passive: % chance on-approach interrupt (attack of opportunity). One of the best abilities.
- Attacks: Fast, Regular, Power, Arterial Strike, Aimed: Head / Torso / Legs / Arms, Feint, Whirlwind

Shovel
A wooden shovel with an iron edge. It's a tool first and foremost, but it can still crack a skull in case of emergency.

Crude Spear
A wooden stick crowned with a long metal spike. Better than nothing.

The Claw
A makeshift spear fashioned from a wooden pole and scorpion claw. If it doesn't terrify your enemies and force them to flee such a mighty warrior, nothing will.
The poison is useful in the early game, but it's quickly outstripped by real spears.

Dori
A spear favored by the hoplitai for its light weight and versatility. The leaf-shaped head can be used for thrusting and slashing. The dori is too heavy to use single-handed.

Krokspar
Literally "barbed spear", the Krokspar is a long-shafted weapon of Skanian design with a dagger-like head a cross piece for blocking. The Krokspar is too heavy to use single-handed.

Hasta
A standard issue Imperial short spear with a broad triangular blade. The hasta can be carried in one hand and used with a shield.

Romach
A long Thracian spear with a blade designed for use against lightly armored infantry and cavalry. The heavy shaft requires two hands to wield effectively.

Trident

Scaurus' Spear
A finely crafted spear given to you by your dear friend Scaurus right after you killed him. It's longer than an average one-handed spear, which gives it a superior reach.
Big bonuses. Only downside is that it's limited to steel-forged.

All melee weapons can be laced with poison and sharpened. To do that, simply right-click on a poison vial or whetstone and then apply it to the weapon. The potency of the poison depends on the vial, and the degree to which the weapon is sharpened depends on the skill of the crafter.
