Dungeon Rats: Shields

In Iron Tower Studios' cRPG of 2016, Dungeon Rats, along with heavy metal armor and helmets, shields facilitate proper tanking.

Shields are for Block-based builds, not Dodge-based ones. Dodged projectiles continue on their way, possibly hitting another party member, but blocking projectiles neutralizes the threat completely. That is Captain Obvious from a realism PoV, but this is one of the rare RPGs that simulates the flight of projectiles properly, and it is going to be on your mind whenever archers draw their bows. When we go up against crackshots such as longbowmen, blocking with shields is far superior to dodging.

The ability to push back and knock down opponents is a nice perk of shields, one which shouldn't be ignored. Axes are effective weapons vs. shields.
