Arcanum, Madam Toussaude: Part XII

Delores Beston

Delores Beston, Seer of the Unnatural, is a human noble found at 42 Polton Cross, Tarant:

After "divining" its location with a lock of our hair (mmm...)...

Madam Toussaude's House of Secrets

Delores requests that we retrieve a crystal ball from Madam Toussaude's House of Secrets located at 77 Devonshire Way:

However, it turns out that Madam Toussaude was expecting us:

And we must choose sides at this point.

Gypsy Blood Curse

If we slay Madam Toussaude, we receive a curse: For Killing Madam Toussaude, you have received an ancient gypsy blood curse (Charisma -2).

Crystal Ball

We can then loot the crystal ball from her corpse and deliver it to Delores:

[1,200 XP, Evil +3]

Whom we can also slay in revenge for being cursed.

Or we can accept the crystal ball given willingly to us by Toussaude:

And deliver it to Delores, thereby killing her:

Gypsy Blessing

The reward is that Madam Toussaude bestows a blessing upon us: For helping Madam Toussaude, you receive a gypsy blessing (Charisma +1).

Note that, if we have sought Toussaude's help in divining the location of the stolen painting, she requests that we deliver the crystal ball to Delores, but the divination overrides the blessing:

Jared & Wilhemina

Remember the note we found on the body of Wilhemina at the crash site, that was addressed to Jared? Well, Jared, who is the Captain of the Vermillion Station guard, is found standing guard outside the train station. We can give him the note:

[1,700 XP, Good +2]

Jared requests that we commission a tombstone for Wilhemina.

Joseph the Stonecutter

The stonecutter is located at 12 East End Ave.:

[1,700 XP, Good +2]

Matthew Jameson's Wedding Ring

Matthew Jameson is standing on the corner of Kensington B'way and Devonshire Way. He requests that we find his wedding ring in the sewers just below our position:

Drop down the sewer grate, slay some sewer rats nearby and grab the fancy ring.

[1,200 XP, Good +4]

We can also tell Matthew we're keeping the ring, and then slay him when he flies into a rage [Evil +2].

The Ren'Ar Elven Siamese Twin Skulls

Dr. Benjamin Gershwin

Gnome Phenologist Dr. Benjamin Gershwin is found at 24 University Court:

In the interests of "science", he requests that we retrieve the skulls of Elven Siamese twins:

However, there is nothing in the cemetery tomb other than a matchbook that points the way to the Wellington Gentleman's Club located at 77 Vermillion Rd. Inside, Sir Matt de Cesare fobs us off in regard to the matchbook.

Thom Grak

Half-Orc Thom Grak is found standing about at Steamrail Station G: Kensington Park. He requests that we track down Sir Matt de Cesare:

Sir Matt de Cesare

Cesare is found standing at the bar at the Wellington Gentlemen's Club located at 77 Vermillion Rd. Suddenly, a Half-Orc assassin comes for Cesare, but Cesare shoots him dead:

[1,700 XP, Good +1]

For privacy, we follow Cesare out of the club and around the corner:

It turns out that Cesare is in Tarant to recover the skulls of the Ren'Ar siamese twins. Since the skulls have been removed from the cemetery, he believes they may be stored in a warehouse in Tarant, awaiting shipment.

North of Simon Plough's warehouses, at 17 Quilton Bend, there is a large locked warehouse guarded by a 25th level wererat and a 17th level ogre guard. Along with a hunting rifle, the skulls are found in a pile of locked barrels. [1,000 XP, Good +2]

At this point, don't give the skulls to Dr. Benjamin Gershwin.

If we return to Cesare with the skulls in our possession, he refers us to Arthur Tyron in Black Root.

[3,100 XP]

Once you have obtained the note from the shack located in southwest Black Root (which indicates that Tyron has gone into hiding), make your way to 22 Dragon's Turnabout, Caladon, where Arthur Tyron will tell you about the Industrial Council's Half-ogre breeding experiments, and mark Half-Ogre Island on the Arcanum Map.

Either set sail or teleport to Half-ogre Island, enter the lab in the northeast, loot the Half-ogre Laboratory Journal from the safe and return to Caladon only to find that Tyron is m.i.a. Instead, a gnome tells you that the journal is of no consequence, and that you have and know nothing.

In conclusion, you can sell the skulls to the phrenologist for up to 400 gold. If you take the journal to the Tarantian Editorial Office located at 44 Polton Cross, Tarant, Victor Wright refers you to Tarantian journalist Sam Longwell at 7 Saints Ave., Caladon, who says he will print the story but later turns out to be an imposter.

Aldous T. Buxington III

While at the university, you may like to learn about the pagan gods from Aldous T. Buxington III:

This is covered in my Arcanum index.

Tech Manuals Arcanum

In addition, we can purchase tech manuals from the university bookseller for 750 GP. Each manual increases our Expertise in technological disciplines based on our Intelligence score. We can buff our Intelligence with potions purchased from the Wise Woman in order to employ more complicated schematics before we would otherwise be able to.

That pretty much wraps up the currently accessible quests in Tarant. I suppose I should cover the towns of Dernholm and Black Root next.
