Part XI of Jagged Alliance 2 Walkthrough.
Jagged Alliance 2 Expert Difficulty Level
We start off with a lot less cash in Expert mode of Jagged Alliance 2, which makes it harder to hire good mercs at the beginning. This is felt most acutely when we take on the SAM site to the east of Drassen: Deidranna's forces have rifles such as Mini-14s, Colt Commandos, SPAS 15s, SKSes etc., and we only have pistols and SMGs (because we can't afford Gus JA2 or Magic JA2, who come with good guns). Thus, the enemy has better range, indeed, double our range.
Highly agile mercs such as Danny JA2 are very useful in Expert mode due to their ability to run from one point of cover to the next. cf. Jagged Alliance 2 Mercenaries.
Enemy numbers per sector are increased, along with the tier of the enemies and the quality of their equipment. Most of the Drassen enemies are wearing Kevlar, for example. And we lack AP rounds for our pistols, so we have to hit them several times before they drop (sometimes it takes six shots).
Deidranna's reprisals come thick and fast after we take Drassen and its SAM. Some of our militia are also more likely to die during auto-resolve, which means Teachers (Buns JA2, Ira JA2) are needed on standby in order to top up militia numbers. Reprisals can literally come one after the other (I had two within half an hour of game-time).
Forces sometimes combine on the map, like so:
Some of those units can be wielding Dragunov sniper rifles or even Mortars. It's best to run away in wilderness zones that have no cover (and there isn't really cover from a mortar).
Outcomes of Auto Resolve are a little more random than I would like:

Outcomes of Auto Resolve are a little more random than I would like:
- Attempt 1: entire militia is wiped out
- Attempt 2: only a few militia are wiped out
Deaths of A.I.M personnel seem to be more common. Both Gus and Meltdown were KIA by Day 12.
Had 58 kills after taking Drassen + SAM (after taking the two sectors in Omerta, the three in Drassen, and the SAM).
I found my first Dragunov and my first Steyr Aug in Alma:
The bloodcat lair requires a big and high-level squad decked out in Spectra, as there are just too many cats that ambush us upon our arrival. Here, the party gets mauled to death by a pack of 30:
Reload: leave it until later or just ignore it. It's cheesy to be ambushed like that, anyway.
After taking Alma + Central SAM: 148 kills.
