Wizard Level 4 Spells, Temple of Elemental Evil ToEE Best Spells


There are 21 level 4 Sorcerer & Wizard spells in ToEE. The best Level 4 Wizard spells are Confusion, Ice Storm, Greater Invisibility and Stoneskin.

Greater Invisibility + Stoneskin facilitate epic supertanking for our physical-based damage dealers:


• Unbolded: the spell may or may not be useful; it depends
• Bolded: the spell is generally worth having
• Blue: King-tier or key spell: a spell we don't want to miss
• Red: Shit-tier or all but useless spell
• Pink: The spell is cheesy or broken

◦ Animate Dead (Necromancy) {9011}
Summon spell. Zombie or Skeleton minion. Requires a corpse.
◦ Bestow Curse (Necromancy) {9028}
Touch-range debuffer. Inflicts -6 to one stat OR -4 attack, save, stat check and skill check penalty.
Charm Monster (Enchantment) {9055}
Divide & conquer spell. Same as Charm Person except affects monsters.
Confusion (Enchantment) {9073}
Great divide & conquer AoE, 15ft. radius and 1 round per caster level duration.
◦ Contagion (Necromancy) {9076}
Inflicts disease, subject to Fort. and SR.
Crushing Despair (Enchantment) {9551}
AoE debuffer,  subject to Will and SR. Is the opposite to and counters and dispels Good Hope.
◦ Dimension Door (Conjuration) {9123}
Mobility spell. Teleport anywhere within 400ft. + 40 per caster level.
Dimensional Anchor (Abjuration) {9122}
Stops target from casting Dimension Door and Teleport.
◦ Fear (Necromancy) {9165}
Divide & conquer AoE.
◦ Fire Shield (Evocation) {9173}
Good Hope (Enchantment) {9558}
AoE buffer.
Greater Invisibility (Illusion) {9244}
Excellent single target tanking facilitator that grants 50% concealment. Also grants +2 attack.
Ice Storm (Evocation) {9237} [key crafting spell]
Direct damage AoE. 20 ft. radius cylinder that inflicts solid cold and bludgeoning dmg.
◦ Lesser Globe of Invulnerability (Abjuration) {9311}
Ward.
Otiluke's Resilient Sphere (Evocation) {9337}
Incredibly cheesy ward due to AIs foolishly whaling away upon an invincible combat unit while allies are picking them to pieces. Don't use it if you want the game to remain challenging.
◦ Phantasmal Killer (Illusion) {9345}
Can instantly kill target or inflict 3d6 dmg.
◦ Remove Curse (Abjuration) {9391}
Removes curses that cannot otherwise be removed by in-game priests.
Shout (Evocation) {9432}
Inflicts solid sonic damage from a 30 ft. cone. Good spell.
◦ Solid Fog (Conjuration) {9443}
Upgraded Fog Cloud.
◦ Stoneskin (Abjuration) {9462}
Excellent tanking facilitator. Grants damage reduction 10/Adamantine per caster level up to 100 points of physical-based dmg. It can be cast on party members as well.

Summons fiendish meatbags.
◦ Wall of Fire (Evocation) {} [added by Co8]

Along with Mirror Image, Stoneskin is the best defensive spell in the game. Note that it can be cast on allies, not just the spellcaster. The same goes for Greater Invisibility. Combat units buffed with Stoneskin and Greater Invisibility are suddenly on a whole other level in terms of staying power/tanking prowess.
