Betrayal at Krondor IBM PC MS-DOS Dynamix 1993

Betrayal at Krondor 1993

Dynamix released Betrayal at Krondor for IBM PC MS-DOS in 1993. Betrayal at Krondor is a well-written cRPG set in Raymond E. Feist's Midkemia of Riftwar. Betrayal at Krondor was designed by John Cutter, programmed by Nels Bruckner, composed by Jan Paul Moorhead and written by Neil Hallford and Raymond E. Feist.

Betrayal at Krondor is technically notable for its zoomable 3D map-view, 3D first-person exploration view and animated digitized graphics. Betrayal at Krondor also features a 3-layered inventory mode with drag and drop.

Betrayal at Krondor's turn-based combat features grid-based movement, ranged and melee to-hit and damage, initiative, spellcasting and weapon and armor modifiers.

Other Betrayal at Krondor Features

  • Nine-chapter Campaign
  • 4x interface screens: map, combat, inventory, travel
  • 4x interface sub-screens: encamp, spellcasting, puzzle, stats
  • Characters constituted by 4x stats and 12x skills
  • Combat: Thrust & Swing in melee, fire crossbow and cast spell
  • Traps & Locks: Moredhel Lockchest Puzzles
  • 38x spells and 33x enemy-types
  • Shops, Taverns, Inns & Temples

  • Tailor step size, turn size and text speed in 3 levels
  • 4x levels of graphics detail

Even though its design is clumsy Betrayal at Krondor is an undeniable classic. Betrayal at Krondor is one of the few pre-Fallout cRPGs that I would recommend playing through in 2025.

Overall, 7½/10.
