Hitmen Productions of Canada released NBA Live 97 for IBM PC MS-DOS 5.0 and Windows 95 DirectX 3.0 in December of 1996.
NBA Live 97 was preceded by NBA Live 96 of 1995. In the above infographic, note the ugly and unprofessional presentation of NBA Live 97 in comparison to NBA Live 96: tying too hard to be cool.
NBA Live 97 displays in 256-color or High-Color (65,535-color) VESA 1.2 SVGA 640x480. NBA Live 97 employs 3D texture-mapped playfields and actors. In addition, NBA Live 97 allows for 8 different camera angles, switchable on-the-fly, with tailorable zoom levels.
The PC version of NBA Live 97 was lead-programmed by Rod Reddekopp.
NBA Live 97 requires an Intel Pentium 75 MHz CPU, 400K of free conventional memory, 12 megs of XMS memory (16 megs of RAM) and PCI/VLB SVGA graphics card with 1 meg of vRAM. NBA Live 97 is a Rational Systems' DOS/4GW Protected mode run-time v1.97.
NBA Live 97 supports joystick, Gravis Gamepad, Gravis Gamepad Pro, Gravis GrIP 4-player adapter or keyboard control.
NBA Live 97 audio supports Sound Blaster, Sound Blaster 2.0, Sound Blaster 16, Sound Blaster Pro, Sound Blaster Pro 2.0, Sound Blaster AWE-32, Pro Audio Spectrum, Pro Audio Studio, Logitech SoundMan Wave, ESS Audio Drive, Reveal SoundFX Wave 32, Aztech Sound Galaxy, Media Magic ISP-16, Turtle Beach Tropez, Oak Technologies Mozart, Windows Sound System, Gravis UltraSound, Gravis UltraSound MAX and Ensoniq SoundScape.
NBA Live 97 was distributed on 1x CD-ROM and extracts and installs to hard disk drive via NBA Live 97 Install. The install size is 470 megs and consists of 1,500 files.
