Cambria SAM Site Jagged Alliance 2
This central SAM site is of strategic importance. The screencap below depicts Skyrider's no-fly-zone before and after its taking:
Such an air-space increase allows us to push to the west more concertedly.
Armed with assault rifles such as the M-14, H&K G41 and Colt Commando, my squad leaves a trail of redshirt bodies in their wake as they make their way up the approach, and to the checkpoint. All told, no fewer than eight redshirts and one blackshirt bought it.
My I.M.P scored half of those kills. The reason? The range of her M-14 fitted with a sniper scope (45) coupled with her Marksmanship score (93). In the open, and at such a distance, the shotguns and stock rifles of the enemy are no match for an M-14. That thing packs some punch!
The command center is not so easy, however. Since we didn't employ stealth, the redshirts inside know wer're coming for them. As a result, they've dug themselves in and are stubbornly camped in a secure position.
Both doors to the office are rigged with explosives, but only one is locked. That's good news for Barry, who has a tendency of unlocking doors and then getting shot to shit by whoever is waiting inside.
In this screencap, there are two redshits camped in the office that we can't yet see. And two patrolling the perimeter one of whom we've already dusted (bottom-left). The redshit on the left was tricked by the sound of Conrad coming around one side. He was prone, waiting for Conrad to round that corner. But what he didn't know was that my I.M.P had stealthily positioned herself in a flanking position, behind a pile of crates.
However, the two redshits inside released a noxious gas on the perimeter. If caught in its AoE, and if not wearing a gasmask, this gas immediately drains our Energy Points (EPs). The best-case scenario is that we can't act on our turn, but it's more likely we'll just collapse into unconsciousness; become sitting ducks.
Now, Barry and I.M.P are caught within the AoE; they can't act on their turn and are about to fall unconscious. But, as luck would have it, Conrad narrowly escaped the AoE as a strong redshirt barges out of the unlocked door with the intent of finishing us off:
But the unaffected Conrad scores an Interrupt:
Then, the other redshirt appeared and took a shot at Conrad; the shot was off and the redshirt ducked back into the center room. So Conrad, still in a crouched position, moved into the doorway and put him to bed:
The loot from the sector is as follows:
The sector was fairly easy to take.
Upon hearing the news that she has lost the central SAM site, Queen Deidranna orders elite forces to execute a reprisal. That means we need to train our militia quickly. Now, only two teachers can be assigned to train one sector, so it stands to reason that we employ our best for the job: Conrad (Teacher) and Buns (Expert Teacher). They trained the militia to its max in 30 hours.

While that was going on, Dynamo reunited with Matt for Alma Loyalty +12. It was a heart-felt moment.
We also received a report from the head miner in Drassen that there have been sightings of bugs by the miners:

This is the crepitis scourge that Deidranna has unleashed upon Arulco. As such, that lucrative mine - yielding $8,000 per day - has been shut down: until the problem is dealt with, we are losing $8,000 per day!
One day into training the militia (to "greenshirts"), there was a reprisal by Deidranna's elite. On Novice mode, that consisted of seven Blackshirts:
Having trained the militia at the Cambria SAM site, our priority is to get that Drassen mine up and running again. Which means we need to take out the crepitus infesting it.
This phase is best allocated to a separate post: Part X.
