The New Zealand Story Amiga 1989
Choice of Ocean Software ported Taito's The New Zealand Story coinop of 1988 to the Amiga in 1989. The New Zealand Story is a multi-directionally-scrolling platformer.
The New Zealand Story consists of five locations of four time-limited rounds each and a boss-fight at the end of each of the fourth rounds. In controlling Tiki the Kiwi (a flightless bird from NZ) the object of The New Zealand Story is to save Tiki's 20 friends from a leopard walrus that has kidnapped and sold them throughout NZ. A kiwi is found in each round, locked in cage.
Tiki can move left and right, jump directly up and diagonally up, fall down, fly (via balloon, blimp or UFO), swim (limited by an oxygen meter), shoot water from his mouth and fire a few different projectiles, such as arrows, bombs, fireballs and lasers. Hazards consist mostly of projectiles and spikes.
The New Zealand Story also features hidden warps that allow Tiki to bypass parts of a round or entire rounds.
The control and mechanics of The New Zealand Story are not as refined or as sophisticated as those of Rainbow Islands of 1990, but TNZS is a fast-paced platformer that requires some practice to beat.
The New Zealand Story was programmed by Colin Gordon; its graphics drawn by S. Connor; its audio converted by Jonathan Dunn.
The New Zealand Story displays in 16-color 320x200 with an active drawspace of 302x176.
The New Zealand Story was distributed on 1x 3.5" 880 kB diskette.
