Ghosts 'n Goblins Amiga 1990
Elite Systems ported Capcom's Ghosts 'n Goblins coinop of 1985 to the Amiga in 1990. Ghost 'n Goblins is a platform game.
The sequel to Ghosts 'n Goblins of 1985 is Ghouls 'n Ghosts of 1988. However, on the Amiga Ghouls and Ghosts came out in 1989 whereas Ghosts n' Goblins came out in 1990.
The Amiga version of Ghosts 'n Goblins was programmed by Richard Frankish; its graphics were drawn by David Percival; its audio was composed by Mark Cooksey.
Ghosts 'n Goblins consists of six levels of platforming action. The difficulty level is high.
The player assumes the role of the knight, Arthur, who battles demons, dragons and undead in his quest to save the princess. Arthur does not have melee attacks, only 4-way ranged attacks. Arms and armor upgrades can be collected along the way. Arthur can move left and right and jump directly upwards and diagonally upwards. In addition, Arthur can crouch and climb up and down ladders.
Ghosts 'n Goblins displays in 16-color 320x256; the maximum active drawspace is 256x228. The screen-scrolling is smooth and the sound effects and music are good, but the Amiga version omits much of the coinop content and assets.
The Amiga was capable of much more in 1990, but this port is good enough. I give this conversion 7/10.
Ghosts 'n Goblins was distributed on 1x 3.5" 880kB DD diskette.
Ghosts 'n Goblins IBM PC 1987
The IBM PC version of Ghosts 'n Goblins displays in 16-color EGA 320x200. IBM PC Ghosts 'n Goblins does not feature screen-scrolling, it is only flip-screen.
IBM PC Ghosts 'n Goblins audio supports PC Speaker only. However, the coinop tune and sound effects have been emulated. On higher difficulty settings enemy movement rate is increased.
Ghosts 'n Goblins Commodore 64 1986
Elite Systems ported Capcom's Ghosts 'n Goblins coinop of 1985 to Commodore 64 in 1986. C64 Ghosts 'n Goblins was programmed and drawn by Chris Butler and composed by Mark Cooksey. C64 Ghosts 'n Goblins features good controls and smooth scrolling, but only four stages are included. At some points C64 Ghosts 'n Goblins simultaneously shifts over one dozen on-screen sprites. Not bad for 1986, not bad at all.
