Red Storm Rising is a nuclear submarine computer simulation released by MPS Labs of Microprose in 1989 for IBM PC MS-DOS 2.11-3.31. Red Storm Rising is based on the best-selling Tom Clancy and Larry Bond war novel of the same name, published in 1986.

Red Storm Rising was designed by Sid Meier and Arnold Hendrick; the original Commodore 64 version of 1988 was programmed by Sid Meier, Richard Orban and Silas Warner whereas the 1989 IBM PC version was programmed by Richard Orban, Darrell Dennies, Joe Hellesen and Bill Becker.

Red Storm Rising is the best submarine strategy game ever made. It is one of the most professionally coded, presented and documented computer games of its decade.

The Red Storm Rising graphics display supports Hercules Monochrome, 4-color CGA16-color EGA, 16-color Tandy and 256-color VGA 320x200/MCGA.

Red Storm Rising requires an i808x or 80x86, 384K RAM and 256K vRAM (for VGA). Red Storm Rising audio supports IBM Sound, Tandy 1000 Sound, Innovation Sound Board and AdLib Sound Board.

Red Storm Rising was distributed on 1x 3.5" 720kB DD diskette or 2x 5.25" 360kB DS DD floppy disks. The hard disk drive install size is 720 kbytes (21 files).
