Greater Doppelganger is a Baldur's Gate enemy in BioWare's cRPG of 1998, Baldur's Gate. Greater Doppelgangers are insidious infiltrating shapeshifters most notable for their powerful illusions and maximum attack rate. Greater Doppelgangers are encountered in Durlag's Tower, in the Candlekeep Catacombs, and at Sarevok's coronation in the Ducal Palace. In the Labyrinth of Doors of Durlag's Tower, they can also spawn as on-rest ambushes.
Greater Doppelgangers are infamous for assuming the forms of the nobility, of the player character's acquaintances, and of Durlag Trollkiller's family members.
Greater Doppelganger Stats
Greater Doppelgangers have THAC0s of 7 and inflict an average of 6.5 slashing damage at a rate of 5 ApR (self-Hasted), wielding 1d12 claws.
Defensively, unhelmed Greater Doppelgangers cast Mirror Image, have ACs of 0, 65 HPs and impressive saving throws of 2-2-2-2-3.
Both their Haste and Mirror Image can be dispelled with Dispel Magic. If successful, the Greater Doppelganger's attack rate drops by one point, and they become much easier to hit.
A few Greater Doppelgangers on the 2nd level of Durlag's Tower cast Fireball, Stinking Cloud or Cloudkill. However, these are custom events rather than technical abilities of the GD itself.
Greater Doppelgangers have a morale of 10, a morale break of 7 and morale recovery of 60. They have no immunities or resistances.
4,000 XP.
