Caravan Trade Routes Civ2

Trade routes link two cities together in trade of a commodity, cargo type or resource (aka trade goods and materials).

What can be traded is dependent on city resource availability. Each city supplies three different trade goods and demands three different trade goods. And the supply and demand stats of Trade Goods -- that is, how much they supply and demand -- are viewable in the Trade Advisor.

The yield of trade routes is dependent on the distance between cities, the size of the cities, and the supply and demand of the cities. In addition, trade routes that bridge continents or link rival Civ cities confer higher returns.

Establishing a trade route grants an initial return followed by an ongoing one (as the caravan moves back and forth between the cities).

For example, City A of 11th level has a Supply score of 12 in Hides whereas City B of 12th level has a Demand score of 12 in Hides. Therefore, City A should build a Caravan to transport Hides to City B. Both city A and B are of the same Civ, but are situated on different continents. The result:

Other trade routes:

Trade has been a major source of income to civilizations throughout history. Journeying to distant lands, caravans exchanged their loads of goods for money or other items of value. In addition, the traders who accompanied the caravans often brought back new knowledge about the advances made by the civilizations with whom they did business. Marco Polo, for example, went with traders to China. He remained there for many years, and brought back much valuable information to the West.
