Caravan Civilization 1

Caravan Civ1

Caravan is a Civilization 1 Unit in MicroProse's TBS Game of 1991, Civilization 1.

Caravan ignores enemy zones of control. The ability to ignore ZoC allows caravans to explore rival civ territory.

Caravans are used to set up trade routes between cities. Caravans can also help cities build Wonders of the World.

  • Prerequisite: Trade

Trade has been a major source of income to civilizations throughout history. Journeying to distant lands, Caravans exchanged their loads of goods for money or other items of value, leaving both parties better off. In addition, the traders who accompanied the Caravans often brought back new knowledge about the advances made by their contacts. Such a person was Marco Polo, who went with traders to China, stayed there for many years, and brought back much valuable information to the West.

Caravan Trade Routes Civ1

Trade routes link two cities together in trade of a commodity, cargo type or resource (aka trade goods and materials).

What can be traded is dependent on city resource availability. Each city supplies three different trade goods and demands three different trade goods.

The yield of trade routes is dependent on the distance between cities, the size of the cities, and the supply and demand of the cities. In addition, trade routes that bridge continents or link rival Civ cities confer higher returns.

Establishing a trade route grants an initial return followed by an ongoing one (as the caravan moves back and forth between the cities).
