Longbowmen Master of Magic

Longbowmen Master of Magic

Longbowmen are High Elf martial combat units in SimTex's cRPG of 1994, Master of Magic. Longbowmen are notable for their long-range marksmanship.

As with all ranged combat units, Longbowen are most effective when under the effects of Flight and Invisibility. When invisible, Longbowmen get free shots aka a free opening volley on enemies that lack True Sight. For example, I have taken out 3x Great Wyrm and 3x Sky Drake with one 9-pack of invisible Longbowmen -- before such juggernauts were even able to get their turn. And while Sky Drakes have True Sight, we still managed to mow them down before they moved in close enough to attack.

In defending strongholds against sieges (that is, when we naturally have the initiative; that is to say, when we get our turn first), Longbowmen under Mass Invisibility are devastating. If the enemy does not give up immediately, they get mowed down in the blink of an eye. In most situations, however, we want a melee/tank combat unit guarding the gate in order to take care of any strong enemies that are immune to ranged attacks.

The above are "only" Sorcery Longbowmen with Warlord, Flight, Invisibility and Adamantium arrows.

Here are flying Champion Longbowmen that eshew invisibility in favor of Life and Chaos offensive and defensive benefits (11 Life Book Build that found 1x Sorcery and 1x Chaos, in game):
