FX Fighter



Argonaut Software released FX Fighter for IBM PC MS-DOS in June of 1995. Published by GTE Entertainment, FX Fighter is a versus Fighter that employs realtime software-rendered or hardware-accelerated flat-shaded or Gouraud-shaded 3D, with or without texture-mapping.

FX Fighter was the first PC game to employ Argonaut Games' BRender aka Blazing Render 3D API middleware of 1993, which predates Microsoft's Direct3D by three years. FX Fighter graphics were rendered on SGI workstations.

FX Fighter was designed by Jaid Mindang and Gary O'Connell, programmed by Simon Hargrave and Steve Thompson and composed by Justin Scharvona, Gwynn Jones and Martin Simpson. FX Fighter characters were 3D-animated by Adrian King, Tina Bradley, Jason Smith and Mansoor Naim.

FX Fighter Technical


FX Fighter requires an i80486DX2 66 MHz CPU, 600K of free conventional memory, 2.9 megs of XMS memory and VGA video card with 512K of cache. FX Fighter is a v1.97 Rational Systems DOS/4GW Protected Mode run-time.

FX Fighter displays in 256-color VGA 320x200. FX Fighter was distributed on 1x CD-ROM and extracts and installs to hard disk drive via FX Fighter Installation. The install size is 12 megs and consists of 380 files.

FX Fighter control supports keyboard and 2x two-button joystick or gamepad. FX Fighter audio supports Sound Blaster, Sound Blaster Pro, Sound Blaster 16 and Gravis Ultrasound.
