Space Quest Games
Space Quest is a series of science fiction graphics adventure games developed by Sierra On-Line for IBM PC MS-DOS from 1986-1995. In terms of plot, setting and audiovisuals, the Space Quest series is heavily influenced by and parodies Star Wars and Star Trek. In each Space Quest game players control an accident-prone janitor by the name of Roger Wilco, but in most of the games players can name the character.

Space Quest PC DOS 1986
Sierra On-Line released Space Quest: Chapter I – The Sarien Encounter for PC DOS in October of 1986. Space Quest was built on Sierra On-Line's AGI v2.0 engine. Thus, Space Quest only offers keyboard or joystick control, and verb-noun commands are inputted by players via one-line text field. The text-parser's dictionary is laughably limited.
In Space Quest Roger Wilco explores the Arcada, Planet Kerona, the Ulence Flats and the Sarien starship, Deltaur. The object of Space Quest is to neutralize the threat to Xenon posed by the Sarien aliens.
Space Quest displays in 16-color EGA 320x200 or 4-color CGA RGB or 16-color VGA composite 320x200. Space Quest audio is toggleable and its game speed can be switched between Normal, Slow, Fast and Fastest. Inventoried objects can be viewed, and there are 12 savegame slots available.
Space Quest audio consists of the bleeps and blurps of the Beeper. The audio is toggleable.
Space Quest was distributed on 2x 5.25" 360K floppy disks and installs to hard disk drive via Hard Disk Installation for Space Quest. The install size of v2.2 of 1987 is 640K and consists of 22 files. Space Quest is not copy-protected.
Space Quest was designed by Scott Murphy and Mark Crowe, drawn and composed by Mark Crowe, and programmed by Scott Murphy, Sol Ackerman and Ken Williams.

Space Quest II PC DOS 1987
Sierra On-Line released the original version of Space Quest II: Vohaul's Revenge for PC DOS in November of 1987. Space Quest II was built on Sierra On-Line's AGI engine.
In Space Quest II Roger Wilco explores the Xenon Orbital Station, Planet Labion and Vohaul's Asteroid. The object of Space Quest II is to defeat the evil scientist, Sludge Vohaul.
Space Quest II displays in 16-color EGA 320x200.

Space Quest III PC DOS 1989
Sierra On-Line released the original version of Space Quest III: Pirates of Pestulon for PC DOS in March of 1989. Space Quest III was built on Sierra On-Line's SCI0 engine.
Audiovisually, Space Quest III is a big step up from its predecessors. Space Quest III makes good use of the 16-from-64-color EGA palette, and its music is memorable.
Space Quest III displays in monochrome Hercules 720x348, 2-color CGA 320x200, 4-color CGA 320x200, or 16-color EGA, VGA, MCGA, PCjr or Tandy 320x200.

Space Quest IV PC DOS 1991
Sierra On-Line released the original version of Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco - Time Rippers for PC DOS 3.3 in March of 1991. Space Quest IV was built on the Sierra Creative Interpreter engine.
In terms of graphics quality Space Quest IV is to Space Quest what King's Quest V is to King's Quest: a highlight of the series.
Space Quest IV displays in 256-color VGA 320x200. In VGA display mode Space Quest IV requires an i80286 CPU. Space Quest IV supports tailorable graphics detail and game speed.
Space Quest IV was distributed on 6x 3.5" 1.44MB HD diskettes and extracts and installs to hard disk drive via Sierra On-Line Game Install/Setup Program. The install size of v1.1 is 6.4 megs and consists of 46 files.

Space Quest I VGA PC DOS 1991
Sierra On-Line released Space Quest I: Roger Wilco in the Sarien Encounter for PC DOS 5.0 in August of 1991. Space Quest I can also be run in Windows 3.0 via DOS shell. Space Quest I is a VGA remake of Space Quest of 1986. Space Quest I was built on the SCI engine as per SQIV.

Dynamix released the original version of Space Quest V: Roger Wilco - The Next Mutation for PC DOS 4.0 in March of 1993. Published by Sierra On-Line, Space Quest V was built on the Sierra Creative Interpreter engine.

Space Quest V consists of 2,548,819 bytes of source code, 798,693 bytes of object code, 6,277,836 bytes of animation, 3,014,153 bytes of background graphics, 1,376,996 bytes of audio, 171,609 of engine code, and 288,541 bytes of written text. Via custom compression software the 11,927,827 bytes of total data was reduced to 7,142,190 bytes.

Space Quest 6 PC DOS 1995
Sierra On-Line released Space Quest 6: Roger Wilco - Spinal Frontier for PC DOS in July of 1995. Space Quest 6 was built on the SCI32 engine.
Space Quest 6 displays in 256-color SVGA 640x480. Some of its playfields scroll by default, but most are flip-screen.
Space Quest 6 was distributed on 1x CD-ROM and extracts and installs to hard disk drive via Sierra On-Line Game Install/Setup Program v3.747. The full install size is 42 megs and consists of 23 files.
Space Quest 6 music supports Sound Blaster / AdLib Card, Sound Blaster Pro, Pro Audio Spectrum, General MIDI Sound Driver and Roland MT-32, MT-100, LAPC-I, CM-32L or CM-64.
Space Quest 6 digital audio supports Sound Blaster and Pro Audio, Pro Audio 16 and Pro Audio Spectrum.
