Drones SMAC
Drones are unproductive and destructive SMAC Citizens in Firaxis' TBS Game of 1999, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (SMAC). Drones are caused by population pressure, inefficiency and annexation. If the Drone population exceeds the number of Talents, Drone riots result. By disrupting production, Drone riots can cripple Bases until the Drone population is addressed.
For unprepared Bases, it is The Cloning Vats that cause the most severe Drone problems. Also, the Genejack Factory induces Drones.
Fix Drones SMAC
Drone problems can be fixed by building psych-related SMAC Base Facilities, assigning Energy to Psych, increasing police presence or increasing the number of Empaths.
Drone Nerve Stapling
The Nerve Staple button is a particularly draconian means of controlling drone riots. If you Nerve Staple your citizens, they will cease rioting for at least ten turns. Do this only in an emergency, however, because Nerve Stapling is considered an atrocity.
Drone Riots
Drone Riots occur when the number of Drones at a base exceeds the number of Talents. During Riots, citizens will continue to feed themselves, but no production will take place and no surplus energy will be produced. To end the Drone Riots, you will have to restore the balance of Drones and Talents. Drone Riots can be prevented (or ended) by one of several methods:
- Building psych-related facilities such as Recreation Commons will reduce the number of Drones at a base
- If your social engineering Police rating is high enough, you can place military units in your base to serve as "police" and impose order
- Converting some workers to Doctors will increase the number of Talents, balancing out the drones.
- If your base produces enough energy, increasing your energy allocation to Psych will increase the number of Talents at your base (one talent for every two points of Psych produced), thereby restoring balance.
