Conan the Cimmerian: Tower of the Elephant

Conan NWN1

Conan the Cimmerian: Tower of the Elephant is a NWN module for BioWare's cRPG Definition of 2002, Neverwinter Nights 1. It is based on the story by Robert E. Howard (1933). cf. Conan Chronicles NWN2.

ToE is designed for first or second level Rogue NWN or Barbarian NWN (or mix) of Human NWN race.

ToE is set in Arenjun, the city of thieves, in the Kingdom of Zamora. Bel is the god of thieves, and many Zamorians want to gain the title "The King of Thieves."

In the taverns of Arenjun "The City of Thieves" rumors are whispered about a great Jewel called "The Heart of the Elephant". It is said to be locked at the top of a great tower and protected by Yara the High Priest. -- DM Gigantis.

Quest stucture is simple:

  • Learn the Secret of the Heart of the Elephant
  • What is the secret of The Elephant's Heart
  • Sprinkle the blood of Yag-Kosha's heart on the Elephant's Jewel
  • Give Yara "A last gift from Yag-Kosha"

The Slums of Arenjun

We start off in the slums. There are a few Zamorian cutthroats skulking about in the alleyways.

The Secret of the Elephant Tower tavern. Gathering place for cutthroats, mercenaries, kidnappers, counterfeiters etc.

A Kothian kidnapper is center-stage, boasting:

The corpse is looted for legit temple district pass signed by a magistrate. We can buy one from someone on the steeet as well, but it's a fake.

In the town square, there is a Corinthian armor dealer and a Zamorian weapons dealer. Only basic gear is on offer. They can identify magical stuff that we find in the tower, since we won't have the ranks to do so even if we're a Rogue.

There is also a slave trader, Yin-Allal:

Off to the temple district next.

Arenjun Temple District

We can see the Elephant Tower rising high above the gardens.

The inner grounds are patrolled by five Zamorian guards and five lions.

There is no obvious way into the tower. Thus, we drop down into:

The Pit

There are other fights as we ascend the tower. One is against a giant spider. Eventually, we reach:

Yag-Kosha's Lair

As per the request, we slay Yag and take the bloodied gem from the altar. Then, we ascend to Yara's chambers and place the gem on the pedestal.

Yara the High Priest:

The End.

I enjoyed playing the module for its Conan lore and a few of the martial duels.
