Fighter Mage dual-class is an Icewind Dale 1 class in Black Isle's cRPG of 1999, Icewind Dale 1. The Figher dual-classes to Mage at 9th level in order to gain Grandmastery in a weapon. If dualed at 7th, it misses out on an entire attack (but is still strong). Indeed, even dualing at 2nd level would result in a much stronger character than a pure Mage.
