Best Classes, Icewind Dale 1

Best Classes Icewind Dale 1

This is an index to the best classes and builds in Black Isle's cRPG of 1999, Icewind Dale 1. The best classes and builds in Icewind Dale 1 are intensely martial-focused but with arcane augmentation, that is, Fighter Mage is best. As a rule, and as proven by its spellcasting repertoire and combat encounter design, IWD spellcasting is a support to martial prowess. Alone, it is all but useless.

When buffed by Best Spells Icewind Dale 1, we can expect these characters to grind through the toughest enemies up to and including Belhifet IWD.

For comparison purposes, the above classes and builds generally employ similar equipment; that is, mostly only the best equipment. I haven't always followed that rule if it offends my AD&D sensibilities, however.

In addition, if the class or build can self-buff into a juggernaut of destruction, then that is factored into its cited stats. For example, the cited stats for Fighter are unbuffed because Fighters can't cast spells. That doesn't mean the Fighter can't be buffed by spellcasting-capable party members, but the intention is to show (for example) the power and self-sufficiency of Fighter Mage over pure Fighter.

The stats are cited from the original IWD experience cap of 1,801,000.
