LucasFilm Games released Battlehawks 1942 in October of 1988 for IBM PC MS-DOS. Battlehawks 1942 was designed by Lawrence Holland (X-wing) and Noah Falstein, programmed by Lawrence Holland and Michael Breen, and drawn by Ken Macklin, Martin Cameron and James McLeod.

Battlehawks 1942 is predecessor of LucasFilm Games' Their Finest Hour of 1989 and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe of 1991.

Battlehawks 1942 is notable for its historical accuracy and realistic WWII dogfighting and dive-bombing tactics.

Battlehawks 1942 players can pilot six different American or Japanese WWII-era fighter or bomber aircraft in four different WWII Pacific-War battles of 1942.

Audio-wise, Battlehawks 1942 features IBM PC Speaker sound effects by Waldo Kagan.

Battlehawks 1942 controls support mouse, keyboard or analogue joystick.
