The Jungle Book PC DOS
East Point Software ported Eurocom Entertainment Software's 1994 Genesis version of The Jungle Book to IBM PC MS-DOS in 1995.
The Jungle Book is a platform game based on Disney's 1967 animated film of the same name, which was itself based on Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book stories of 1894.
In The Jungle Book players control the Indian boy, Mowgli, who is making his way from the jungle to the village. Along the way, Mowgli collects gems while avoiding hazards and defeating enemies, culminating in a battle with the Bengal tiger, Shere Khan. Mowgli also encounters Bagheera the panther, Kaa the snake, Baloo the bear, Colonel Haithi the elephant and King Louie the ape.
Mowgli can move left and right, look up and down, jump vertically, jump diagonally, crouch, fire his weapon and climb up and down vines, jump from vine-to-vine and move hand-over-hand across vines.
Mowgli weapons include Normal Banana, Double Power Banana, Boomerang Banana and Pea Shooter.
Jungle Book pickups include gems, hearts, pears, apples, bananas and boomerangs.
Published by Virgin Interactive Entertainment, PC DOS Jungle Book was programmed by Martin Cook and Mark Rundle. Genesis Jungle Book audio was converted to PC DOS by Alistair Brimble.

The Jungle Book Technical Specifications
PC DOS Jungle Book displays in 256-color VGA 320x200 and runs at 50 FPS. Note the garish color-gradients and general lack of on-screen colors in PC DOS Jungle Book: you can tell this is just a direct port of the 61-from-512 color Genesis version that does not take advantage of 256-from-262k color VGA.
In addition, Jungle Book of 1995 only manages one layer of parallax whereas the Amiga was handling 13 layers of parallax in 1989 -- with 128 on-screen colors (Shadow of the Beast).
PC DOS Jungle Book audio supports Sound Blaster, Sound Blaster Pro, Sound Blaster 16, Sound Blaster AWE-32, AdLib Gold and Gravis UltraSound.
PC DOS Jungle Book was distributed on 3x 3.5" 1.44MB diskettes and extracts and installs to hard disk drive via Jungle Book Installation. The install size is 3 megs and consists of 6 files.
PC DOS Jungle Book controls supports keyboard, two-button joystick/gamepad and Gravis Gamepad.
PC DOS Jungle Book employs Rational Systems' DOS/4GW Protected Mode Run-time v1.95.
