EF2000 IBM PC MS-DOS 1995 Digital Image Design

NATO EuroFighter Typhoon

Digital Image Design of the U.K. released EF2000 in 1995 for IBM PC MS-DOS, Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0. EF stands for EuroFighter aka NATOs EF Typhoon.

EF2000 is the follow-up to TFX of 1993, which was the follow-up to F29 of 1989. In addition, two EF2000 developers programmed Falcon of 1988/89 for ST/Amiga (Colin Bell and Russell Payne).

From F29 to EF2000, Digital Image Design's flight models and rendering engines always seemed smoother to me than those of most other flight sims of 1989-1995. Their color schemes, soundscapes and user interfaces were often superior as well.

EF2000 features Beyond Visual Range combat (BVR), strategic 3D wargaming engine (WARGEN), virtual cockpit, realistic soundscape and 4 million square kilometers of texture-mapped terrain.

EF2000 requires an i80486DX-66 MHz, 512K of free conventional RAM and 5 megs of EMS RAM, but a Pentium 90 MHz and 16 megs of RAM is recommended. EF2000 is a Rational Systems DOS/4GW Protected Mode Run-time. EF2000 employs the math coprocessor of iDX CPUs. [1]

EF2000 displays in 256-color VGA 320x200 or 256-color VESA SVGA 640x400. EF2000 supports 3D-acceleration via 3dfx or Rendition chipsets.
