F-14 Tomcat
Activision and Dynamix released F-14 Tomcat for IBM PC MS-DOS in 1990. F-14 Tomcat is a combat flight simulator that focuses on F-14 Tomcat versus MiG dog-fighting. In F-14 Tomcat players pilot the U.S. Navy's Grumman F-14 Tomcat stationed on U.S. aircraft carriers.
Enemy aircraft includes the Soviet MiG-21 Fishbed, MiG-25 Foxbat and MiG-29 Fulcrum. In addition, the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom may be encountered in the Middle East.
The IBM PC MS-DOS version of F-14 Tomcat was programmed by Andre Gagnon. F-14 Tomcat 2D graphics were drawn by Mark Waterman whereas its 3D graphics were drawn by Linnea Wigren. F-14 music was composed by Russell Lieblich and Matt Berardo, and F-14 Tomcat sound was composed by Pete Mokras.
F-14 Tomcat displays in 16-color EGA or 16-color VGA 320x200. Sky and landscape gradients are employed. Objects are rendered in 3D but the explosions are 2D sprites.
F-14 Tomcat supports joystick, mouse or keyboard control.
F-14 Tomcat music supports Roland MT-32, Sound Blaster, GameBlaster / Creative Music System, AdLib PC Music System, PS/1 Audio Card, Tandy 1000 3-voice Sound and PC Internal Speaker.
F-14 Tomcat sound supports Sound Blaster, GameBlaster / Creative Music System, Covox PC Sound Master, AdLib PC Music System, PS/1 Audio Card, Tandy Advanced Digitizing Sound System, Tandy 1000 3-voice Sound and PC Internal Speaker.
F-14 Tomcat was distributed on 2x 3.5" 720kB DD diskettes or 4x 5.25" 360kB floppy disks and extracts and installs to hard disk drive via Activision DOS Installer. The install size is 1.5 megs and consists of 118 files.
