Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill
DreamCatcher Interactive released the original version of Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill for Windows 95 DirectX 6.0 in November of 1998. Developed by HeR Interactive, Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill is an educational interactive mystery game that spawned the Nancy Drew PC-game franchise.
In Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill players assume the role of Nancy Drew, an amateur detective investigating the murder of a high-school student in Florida.
Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill is presented in first-person perspective. Navigation and inspection of environments is conducted via mouse-controlled magnifying glass cursor. Players gain clues and solve puzzles by interacting with the environment.
Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill displays in High-color 16-bit color depth at 640x480. The interpolated pre-rendered 3D viewport can be rotated in increments 360°, but the actors are 2D-animated.
Inspection screens are multi-layered. For example, a note displays over an opened envelope that displays over an opened drawer of a desk.
Dialogue is fully voiced for protagonist and characters; there are also dialogue selections to be made during interrogation of suspects. The game features inventory, separate map-screen and three difficulty levels: Junior, Senior, and Master detective.
Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill was distributed on 2x CD-ROM and extracts and installs to hard disk drive via Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill Setup. The install size is 213 megs and consists of 42 files.
Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill runs under Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows ME operating systems. Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill requires Pentium 166 MHz CPU, 16 megs of RAM, 16-bit color video card, 16-bit sound card and 8x CD-ROM drive, but Pentium 200 MHz, 32 megs of RAM and 16x CD-ROM is recommended.
