Wiz 'n' Liz Amiga Lunatic Software 1993

Wiz 'n' Liz

Lunatic Software ported Raising Hell Software's 1993 Genesis version of Wiz 'n' Liz to the Amiga in 1993. Wiz 'n' Liz is a British platform game notable for its high-speed rollercoaster gameplay and two-player split-screen mode.

In Wiz 'n' Liz players assume the role of either Wiz or Liz as they undertake a quest to save the rabbits of Pum from The Deadly Dragon and his minions.

The Wizards can scurry left and right, jump, drop down through landscape levels, look up and down, collect ingredients and mix the ingredients in their Home World cauldron in order to create spells, for which there are over 100 effects.

Running and jumping across wrap-around landscapes, the Wizards must first collect letters that spell out the magic word at the top of the screen. Then, the Wizards must save all of the Rabbits within the time limit, which can be extended by collecting bonuses. Back in Home World, Wizards can then create spells with the collected ingredients and buy and sell ingredients and hints with collected Star currency. Many letters, stars, foods and bonuses float up the screen as Wizard sprites intersect with Rabbit sprites, but the bonuses eventually float too high to be collected.

As with Vectordean's James Pond 3 of 1994, it is easy to tell that Amiga Wiz 'n' Liz is merely a port of a Genesis game. For example, the colors are not "Amiga" colors, there are not many on-screen colors, and there are no copper-list sky gradients or fancy Amiga-native audiovisual effects that can be found in Amiga platformers dating back to 1990. That said, Wiz 'n' Liz is a much better game than James Pond 3.

Published by Psygnosis, Amiga Wiz 'n' Liz was programmed by Martin Hall and James Thomas, drawn by David Bland and Dave Beresford, and composed by Richard Ede and Mike Clarke. The original Genesis version of Wiz 'n' Liz was developed by Martyn R. Chudley and Mike Waterworth.
