Tecnoball Amiga TLK Games 1991

Tecnoball

TLK Games of France released Tecnoball for Amiga OCS in 1991. Tecnoball is a bat-and-ball block-breaker influenced by Taito's Arkanoid coinop of 1986.

Refer to the Arkanoid article for the basics of Arkanoid-style block-breaker gameplay.

Tecnoball employs Arkanoid and Arkanoid 2 drops or variations thereof such as catch, expand, disruption, laser and armor-piercing. In addition, there are life-loss and control-reversal penalty drops.

Arkanoid-style aliens are featured. Block-types are single-hit, multi-hit and indestructible.

Each area in Tecnoball consists of 10 levels culminating in a DOH-like Guardian.

Differences between Tecnoball and Arkanoid

  • Technoball trajectory is not based on where on the bat the ball strikes but rather on the direction the bat is moving when the ball strikes the bat
  • Tecnoballs can be repeatedly hit vertically with no change in trajectory, which is impossible in most block-breakers
  • Tecnoballs can get lodged into Snooker-like corner pockets, which change tecnoball trajectory upon their ejection
  • Money-drops are collected during the levels and used to purchase upgrades and power-up drops at end-level for use in the next level/s
  • Extra bats can move along each side of the level, not just along bottom
  • A level can be "pinball-tilted" to knock the ball out of tedious trajectories

Tecnoball music and sound effects are toggleable. Audio is as good as the graphics and gameplay. Tecnoball can also be toggled between NTSC and PAL.

Tecnoball requires an A500 with 512K of RAM. Tecnoball runs at 50 FPS and displays in 64-color extra half-brite mode (EHB).

Tecnoball and TecnoballZ were programmed by Bruno Ethvignot and Jérome Bolot, drawn by Jean-Michel Martin de Santero and Rudolphe Bono, and composed by Régis Parret and Laurent Guyon. The original Tecnoball was lead-programmed by Jérome Bolot. The levels in the original Tecnoball were designed by Jean-Michel Martin de Santero.

TecnoballZ Amiga 1992

TLK Games released TecnoballZ for Amiga OCS/AGA in 1992. As can be seen, TecnoballZ is basically Tecnoball of 1991 with a graphics overhaul.

TecnoballZ AGA Amiga 1995

TLK Games released TecnoballZ AGA for Amiga in April of 1995. TecnoballZ AGA requires an A1200 020 with 2 megs of ChipRAM. TecnoballZ AGA includes a level editor.
